:p yet again I am too damned slow.
It would seem the quick and easy exchange period is over.
Going over a bit of the legalese documents on the settlement site it's looking like a hassle factor of 10.
That's what I get for not paying attention to things:rolleyes: , hmmmmm a new lock. Shoes first.

I'm in town for the weekend I might go checkout the track with the kids.

Speaking of pasting peds. Do you find your "GGGGaahhhh!" riding options are more limited by being fixed? This is the type of situation that freaks me out when I think of running fixed on the street.

Shiznaz 04-13-06 07:43 AM

Even with hayes hydraulic disc brakes I still would have pasted this lady

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 07:52 AM

I can imagine, popping out from inside traffic. It's always nerve wracking seeing a ped in the cars. Bloody fools....maybe she'l look next time.

- There was the whole lock-exchange thing that went on for a year or so. I'm guessing part of that process involved voiding any guarantee w/ the older style of lock.

Also (vaguely related), I have a question about the Kryptonite guarantee fine print that I found confusing. It states that you need to have pre-existing insurance coverage for your bike. Buuut ... if your bike was already insured (ie. home owners insurance, etc.) why would you need the extra Krypto insurance? I've never had actual insurance, but could you save some cash by insuring your bike for $500 ($250 deductable or something) even when it's been appraised at $1000 (and have Kryptonite's policy cover the rest)? Either that, or the whole guarantee thing seems completely redundant. *shrug*

i'm inclined to say it's redundant. if you read further into the fine printo there are some stipulations for non-US residents. From what i remember reading, they pretty much just cover your deductible and perhaps a replacement lock. if you have either home or renter's insurance your bike should be included in that because it's part of the contents of your home. i don't know of an insurance company that has special riders for bikes. if you have something crazy expensive you can ask them to add it to your policy. i don't see the use of the kryptonite insurance as anything other than a selling feature for the lock.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 08:37 AM

Regular home insurance can be hit or miss for bikes after you consider the deductible and the potential increase in rates after you make a claim. If you've got an expensive bike, as per Jeremy's comments, get it added as a special.

Crappy, I didn't know they changed the replacement policy. Anyway, try your lock with a pen, some are impossible to open that way. It depends on the arrangement of the tumbers in your lock, and the diameter of the cylinder. One of my U locks was really easy to open with a pen, the other two were impossible.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 09:58 AM

I'll cry if I can open it with a BIC. All this time.......*shutters*

operator 04-13-06 12:29 PM

quick question..... years ago when I bought my monster Krypto lock it came with a 2500$ guarantee.
NOw that it could be possible to open it with a 5cent bic pen does the guarantee still hold? I see the new ones have the flat key.
The krypto guarntee specifically does not cover the lock being picked.

jeremywhitehorn 04-13-06 12:30 PM

it must be 20 degrees out and sunny and damn it i want out of this office! anyone this my boss'd notice if i tried to pull that ferris bueller's day off trick where he puts the dummy in the bed rigged up to the door handle?

it sounds like there really isn't any worthwhile theft deterrent except for maybe keeping a mean looking german shepheard with you and tying him to your seat tube while you park.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 12:35 PM

It's a Krypto Evolution 2000.
According to my widget it's 16 currently with a high of 22, rode in at 12:30 in my shorts....awesome.
Jeremy...have someone call the switchboard with an emergency for you.

Haha! No dice, it just hailed in good ole R.H.

Edit: Krypto guarantee wise, I think it's pretty useless. The specific circumstances in which you can put a claim on the guarantee is extremely limited.

really? man, it's walk to the park in a t-shirt weather here at good ol' yonge and bloor. i hope the forecast is wrong for tomorrow, i want to go a long road ride.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 12:43 PM

The guarantee on this product is null and void if someone actually manages to open the lock with anything other than the key. It is also null and void if someone uses a grinder to cut it off. BUT if they use a hacksaw from home depot, we GUARANTEE the security of our product.

Think of all the nice dimpled cars ........

operator 04-13-06 01:14 PM

Yeah i'm going to do the Fri TBN ride tomorrow 55/80ks.

paul_in_toronto 04-13-06 02:10 PM

THE KRYPTO LOCK

Ok..if you are having trouble let me know and I will call them about exchanging that thing. In the very least they might just send you a shackle.

I had to go through some crap with them on a brand new flat key lock I sold.. thing just failed, key stuck in the cylinder etc..

I still have that lock to send back actually. Worst case is they might want u to pay shipping, some of there locks just needed a new shackle, some I guess u end up with a new lock.. let me know. Bit of hassle but im sure I can expedit it for u.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 02:18 PM

Well I've had it for years ....ages in fact. I need to see if I can pop it open with a pen. then I'll just get a new lock.

Ill Mitch 04-13-06 02:31 PM

I used to have a non-Kryptonite U-lock and I opened it with a pen but it completely screwed up the tumblers in the locking mechanism, so I had to get a new lock anyway...

Beware if your lock has a round keyhole, it can most likely be opened with a pen, even if it's not a Kryptonite lock.

TRaffic Jammer 04-13-06 02:42 PM

it does..... krypto evolution2000...hmm maybe I shouldn't try to pop it open then.

eyefloater 04-13-06 03:16 PM
