Alright, it's about time I put a helmet on my head. I know squat about them. I see and hear a lot of people with catlike helmets and they seem to like them a lot. Can you guys/gals give me some input on what to buy and where to buy it? Thanks!

Catlikes are pretty Eurotrashy and they'll be hard to track down locally, especially at a good price. I would take a look at some different Giro and Bell helmets. They're designed for different head shapes so you might find that one brand fits you better than the other. $45-$85 should get you set up with a good helmet. You can spend up to ~$200 on one but that won't make it any safer (it will make it lighter with more ventilation and space-aged looks though).

well, I went for a short ride in the don on a trail that lead off of the trail head. At parts there were markers indicating the advanced and intermediate options. Being on a cross bike, I just took the intermediate and still had to walk some tricky sections with drops and rock/brick patches.

Take a look at the road forum and road racing sub-forum. There's some discussion going on there about networks w/ Paris-Roubaix coverage. I'll post any links to any live streams I come across as well tomorrow.

I am totally useless when it comes to descriptions of the Don. Do you have a for realsies mountain bike as well? There's plans to start up weeknight ventures into the Don in the near future - probably Wednesday or Thursday evenings after work. Interested? Last year we stuck to the River Trail and the Ridge trail, which are both cyclocross bike-able.

I has no realzies mountain bike, which made trail riding extra tricky. You kind of have to judge what a cross bike can and can't take on a turn by turn basis. I worry most about that CF fork, to be honest; I just don't have any confidence in CF for MTB or hard single-track. I would be very interested in don ride sessions this spring/summer, but I need to look for a mountain bike. I might try to get a Cannondale Caffeine F4 or 3 before Dorel offshores production. Maybe I should check out some steel MTB rigs, too.

So, no one is down for tomorrow morning, then? Alright, sleepin time.

I'm going to ride today, but not until I finish watching Paris-Roubaix. Hopefully that gives the day some time to warm up as well.

Last season I got comfortable riding the River Trail, the Ridge trail, and that bit that leads into the trails from the Pottery Road parking lot on my CX bike. I agree with you that you have to pick your lines based on the bike you're on to a certain extent, but once you get some of the tricker spots down you can ride them cleanly on pretty much whatever. At least, that's my experience on those trails ... and full disclosure, I did bend my aluminum steerer tube in there at some point over the season. That fork was nothing to write home about though. I'm a big subscriber of "ride what you've got" so if you want to join in we can always do a cx bike-friendly ride through that area.
