I think there should be a steroid-abuse league.. all these big pimply/hairy giants competing against each other. It'd be great tv. ;)

sr20det 06-29-06 12:25 PM

oh damn. I've been to rock oasis w/ my friends a few times and it is awesome!
(couldn't find a climbing partner so I never went back :( )
I'd love to go again.

and a steroid abuse league on tv would be rated MATURE cause everyone in it would be barf inducing.

I read an old OMNI story about the genetic olympics of the future. Pole vaulters with bird bones, wrestlers with croc DNA, swimmers with gills and webbed extremities. cool

Maybe they should just allow all forms of doping instead of trying to police everything. May the best doper win.

So I assume you are a big Patrick Duffy fan from his days as "The Man From Atlantis"?

The message to up and coming athletes is completely destroying sportsmanship IMHO.

Or we should have reasonable carding criteria and reasonable demands on athletes to perform as best they can without the phenomenoal media and moolah pressure. Sub-superhuman performances are by and large shunned for biggest, best, and fasters, regardless of the cost, particularly to the athlete. Take decathletes for example. Probably the best all-round athletes ever. Apart from Michael Smith, name one. If you don't know who Michael Smith is/was, then -2 points for you. Keep it real, both for the athletes and the vicarious couch potato public.

Just reach in a pull out a piece of my childhood would ya?

Cavit8.... you are right that the media and by extension the advertisers/sponsors aren't interested in what previously would be considered PRO performances, but rather OMG performances. If we could bring things back to reasonable levels, sports might become more accessible to more athletes as well, and then by extension more viewers/consumers. I never bought anything because Lance shilled it. I prefer sports with close finishes anyway. Remember when it was the athlete who "wanted it more" would win?

lol. I was trying to find out the name of that show for YEARS. I remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was the most rediculous thing ever, what with the dolphin-style swimming. I only finally figured it out about 2 years ago.

Since we're on that subject.. I remember once seeing a movie about a group of people in (I think) NYC that find out that the city is about to be leveled by some sort of nuclear detonation. All hell breaks loose as the entire city is trying to evacuate. In the final scenes a group of people is on the roof of a tall building trying to get aboard a helicopter to safety when the bomb goes off.. I remember a guy reaching up to shield his face from it and his face oozing out between his fingers. Pretty sweet. ;)

Anyhoo.. does that sound familiar to anyone? :D

Damn right.. while he is obviously a tremendous athelete and had a great team, he made me totally disinterested in watching the tour. Partly because his team allowed him to obliterate everyone else, and yeah, closer races are always more exciting. And also partly because all race coverage seemed to be all about Lance and everything else was ignored. Ugh.

Another annoying by-product of the "Tour de Lance....product shilling. I loved how the OLN "tech features" only ever dealt with the equipment Discovery/Postal were using. These supposed tech features were nothing more than bonus commercials for Trek, Bontrager, Nike and Giro. Dog help them if they should feature some other equipment that was not "Discovery friendly"

he was never caught hahaahahah. the olympics should just be a free-for-all but that would be a bad lesson for the children.

that was funny.

Carl Lewis is cry baby b*^%h. I've always despised him. North American coverage is always pretty awful. Like watching an American network during the olympics, *barf*. You'd think Lance invented the Tour AND the bicycle the way OLN/Discovery went on. I wanna see a free-for-all no teams every man for himself Tour......yea baby.....full contact too  And none of this closing the roads stuff, that's for *******. Seriously, I remember watching Lemond race and being blown away by his efforts. (Remember the flu year? Incredible drive on that guy) Or the first year when he started to come out from under Henault, and he was told to slow down to let BH take a final one, and he didn't. That was classic.
