But yeah, if it's swollen or warm to the touch, make sure you ice it really well. And by "really well" I mean to the point of numbness. Then let it come back up to normal temperature on it's own. Also, Advil is your friend. </lessons learned on my way to Montreal>

ps. I'll have to check out that butcher. I don't eat a lot of meat, so when I do I like to buy quality stuff.. and preferably local/organic/free-range.

The walk-in I went to (at First Canadian Place) was supposedly a sports clinic. The chiropractor I went to has treated many members of my family through various injuries and he's a big time jock. Can't hurt. Both doctors told me to basically keep excercising, but also take it easy and stop if it starts to hurt. Oh and to use lots of ice/Advil. Where was the sports doctor you went to?

Well it all started when I whacked my knee of a table the hall of my appartment. Turns out I slightly dislocated my knee cap, but I didn't realize. It hurt like HELL but I just figured it was bruised and I carried on to go to work that day and the next week or so. Then after a few days at work it got really really sore/stiff. That's when I went to the walk-in/Chiropractor. The doctor prescribed anti-inflammatories (which I didn't take, I stuck to Advil). The chiropractor gave my leg a couple of yanks to realign my knee cap. That helped right away, but he warned me that it would be sensitve for a while.

I actually think I may have some positional issues on my road bike, which I had been riding for two weeks straight when this happened (so the injury is not related to riding fixed). That may have contributed. After a couple of days or recovery I did a bit of riding and noticed that my knee felt fine on my conversion, but started to get sore again on my road bike. I noticed the saddle was perhaps a touch high so I made a couple of adjustments but I have never really gotten comfortable with that bike (Urbanite lugged road frame). My Mielle and my Lejeune just both fit me really well from the beginning, I find them both really comfortable to ride. My Urbanite has just never felt totally right though. It's not a gearing issue, I always spin on my road bike and rarely get into the highest gears, and my Mielle conversion is geared at 46/17.

I fully dislocated the kneecap skateboarding. It sounds like you might have soft tissue swelling and it can take a while to calmdown if it's being abused..(yes messin is abusing , if injured. Try 15min off and on with ice, take the anti inflamitories. If it's what i think it is there won;t be any crankin anytime soon, and some easy spinnin' as just about any hard acceleration will put pressure rightbehind the kneecap, causin aggro. find good sports/knee doc to assess...

think spring training roady type spinning

I pulled a freakin awesome emergency traffic maneuver on the way to work today. I was watching one of those timers count down from 7 and I was still a little ways from the intersection of Front and Lower Simcoe. I figured I could run the red a little because there is hardly ever traffic crossing that intersection because its a dead end going south; cars usually turn left or right. As I expected there was nobody doing this, but there was a car ehaded my direction that wanted to turn left. I was just about at the white line for the intersection when he started to turn left while honking. I dunno what he was thinking, but had I been a car it would have been quite a mess!

Anyways, as soon as he blocks my path I pull a hard skidding emergency right to get parallel with him, but I'm going so fast I can't get quite in line with him and end up more in front of him. He's bearing down on me so I have to start skidding the other direction around the front of the car, but I can't turn hard enough, so I skip my rear wheel a few times and let the rear fishtail and put the bike almost sideways into the turn. At this point I still have quite a bit of speed and I'm heading straight into a pack of pedestrians at the corner, so I have to start skidding right again and throw my weight over the other side of the bike. At this point my right foot unclips while I'm skidding and I somehow don't go down and kill the pedestrians (who had all jumped back and taken cover at this point), and then remerge onto front.

For some reason it was super fun, unlike my other traffic adventures. Maybe its because I was in the wrong?

Probably the same place: http://www.athletescare.com/. I saw Dr. Woollam, as did Cavernmech and Joebent. Seemed like a nice/knowledgeable guy, plus when I made the appointment he was on vacation doing bicycle touring in Italy, so as a cyclist he's probably a good person to see. :)

Shooting is great fun, fun as it is it wouldn't bother me if the rest of the shooting I ever do is video game related.

Actually, at a range is one of the few situations I've had a weapon pointed at me, was scary too. The guy was very experienced off-duty or ex lawman ex military or something I wasn't in any danger unless I was stupid, which thank god I wasn't that day. Me and my bestest bud were there target shooting with his 9mm, a .45 & the most fun an uzi pistol converted to .45

So we're shooting & the bell rings w/the PA announcing weapons down, that's after an initial bell so you know it's almost time. Anyway my buddy heard the announcement & ceased fire, but forgot protocol. He tried to make the gun safe, took a few steps to the table in our booth & went to clear the chamber & remove the clip. But guns down means guns down, before he could get the clip out & set it down the range guy had had time to yell at him once, then take a step forward, draw & take aim. demanding compliance of both of us (I had put mine down on time, but since he felt the need to draw on my friend he wanted me to know he knew he was drawing on my friend!) My buddy complied too of course! It all worked out & we bought more ammo & stayed awhile

Totally our gaff, & we understood why the guy behaved as he did in gun nut texas, we were only 16ish & dressed like 1980s 16 year old clubbers that sold drugs, the next booth over was a group of vietnamese about our age having just a hoot of a time teaching their girlfriends to fire the tiny pocket .32s & slim 9mm they seemd to favour, down from them on the short range was a group of western dressed latin american gentlemen testing out a few sawed off double barrels with brand new pistol grips installed & a couple of corn fed white dudes on the longer range working out with a 30.06 next to the tiawanese fella teaching his kid to handle the ar-15. It was busy like that everytime we went. On Fridays they had special times to fire your fully automatic weapons. Crazy

SamHouston 12-14-06 09:16 AM

and yeah no matter how familiar they scare the crap out of me, or knowing what they are and not knowwing what it is holding them scares the crap out of me

TRaffic Jammer 12-14-06 09:20 AM

not scared of guns...just the peeps that carry them that knows not what to do with it.
Sounds like you won't be needing anymore coffee this morning Shizy...glad you made it ok.

jeremywhitehorn 12-14-06 09:25 AM

to get away from all this gun talk, i'll throw some bike talk out there: what are the widest tires you have run on your fixie? i'm putting a winter bike together and i've got 700x35 on there now. would like wider but can't fit fenders otherwise!

TRaffic Jammer 12-14-06 09:26 AM

is that a cross tyre?

STEEKER 12-14-06 09:28 AM

shotguns are sweet but I love a long bow... nothing scarier than someone shooting arrows at ya
