fun in the slop, the 42x18 was perfect for the snow and the knobbies were great. Oh man did I have fun, I haven't ridden like that in a long time. Temperature was perfect. woooohoooo That totally reminded me of one of my messenger winter days in mtl.

So you are certified, Bonafide, 100% S.S.? so next step after winter->?

The "buy in" id be a bit hesitant, but seeing as it’s through them directly should be ok. But even saving a bit you’ll still be throwing down cash for all the other crap you’ll need. It’s time to put the kid’s wheelie shoes on hold, & treat yourself to what you want! If it’s this or something else complete.
Cheers

No the weather was not perfect @ anytime today -15 here = not good.

I wasn't at the CM but I was out there on 23s, kinda nutty but I took it slow. I have been riding my Bianchi fixed conversion and it isn't too bad, more spongey but nice for the winter. Just one close call with a big white van and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the commute home in the dark was tonight.

The IRO buy-in sounds pretty sweet but with the currency conversion and the shipping, I think it will get close to 300$CDN, not bad for a decent frame that would be fun to build up but I am not going for it as I have too many bikes as it is. If something comes up in the future for hubs or something fixed-gear related, that would be cool.

It's not slop yet here but I had a blast going and sliding around the residential streets here. No cars.

Yeah $300 not such a huge deal anymore. I'd pickup that Rossin that was on sale back at Cavern a while ago.

I already did this last week in the introductions thread but i thought it would be approriate here since this is probably where i'll be posting the most anyways, so here goes:

My name is Colin, and i'm and alcoholic. Just kidding. Anyways. I've been riding casually my entire life until this year when i discovered fixed gear bikes. That feeling of connection with the road hooked me. As far as bike mechanics go i'm a total beginner (i'm literally still learning new things everyday) so any help is highly appreciated. Aside from bikes i'm into travel, photography, art in general, tattoos, etc. Professionally i'm a camera assistant mainly working on commercials.

I heard about this forum at critical mass a few months ago. The main reason why i signed up here is that I don't know anyone that's really into riding bikes(i know, it's sad) and i happen to be very shy in person so i thought this would be a good place to meet folks and learn a thing or two.

I hope this post wasn't too long winded and/or innappropriate.

-Colin

The duties are what frighten me most.... you pay for the frame, wait forever(seemingly) and then bang 80bucks for duties, now, or you don't get your frame. I actually feel for the IRO dealers that have been helping Tony all these years, that have basically been frozen out of this whole thing. I know it's a net thing, but, you know...... I'd hate to be selling IRO's and then having the manufacturer under cut me, even if it is a special. .02$ With the conversion and the can/us duties the "dealness" fades quickly.

TO THE FUN STUFF. Yea the slop was perfect as it wasn't turning into slush right away but stayed frozen and maintained it's snow-ness, so out and about last night. Bombing Greenwood in the snow lane(curb) was hairy and hella fun, i got sideways and wiggly at speed, I thought for sure I was going down but I touched foot and got control again..... Being SS I can pause.... I still don't know how you guys do fixed downhill.

Welcome 2wheelsgood, You'll find some pages we all go a little A.D.D. away from cycling, but it invariably returns.

Naw we were at our Friday post 5pm, um "safety meeting". OH OH nice to see you as well Jeremy. The CM isn't as lustrous as it once was for me. Too damned slow, and somewhat counter productive. I don;t mind going wheel to grill with an SUV to protect myself when i'm riding but the enmass slowly rolling confrontation wears on me. It's like being on a high state of alert, as I'm ready to throw myself in front of something bigger to protect the group. There are very very few cagers out there willing to cross that line despite the blustering, thankfully, however being willing to call the bluff is taxing. I'd like the CM alot more if it rolled at road speed, I'm aware of how hard that would be for "the group" with so many differing levels of riders. Just an opinion that we'd pass as traffic much better if we rolled like traffic. I think it would be a more impressive sight as well.

Back to potato patties, sausages and eggs for the kiddies breaky.

well CM is for the rights of people to have safe streets while using lights and cross walks as well , the state of the drivers skills and LACK of care is pathetic and the way the courts DON"T charge these bad drivers is shameful, car drivers kill peds and bike riders and get away with it, so take back the streets with a slow CM ride is just fine by me,

slow means your thirsty after the ride , Hence you need to have a Beer or two plus a happy stick and maybe a breaking away race at a school track later
