Greetings from Sarnia, Ontario - home of ... well, chemical plants and bingo parlours.
CM pics - make it happen. Or at least stories.
I was going through some old photos of my dad today and came across a photo of him and one of his brothers from back in the 30s. It's them standing on either side of their bike in front of what basically amounts to a Saskatchewan shotgun shack. The bike looks like it weighed about 40 pounds ... I should post a picture of it sometime. Maybe I've got some family lineage fixed gear street cred that I wasn't aware of.
I'm looking forward to getting back to Toronto, it'll be good to do another meet-up of some sort.
I wandered into some random corner store this morning to buy smokes and on my way out saw a photocopied poster for someone's handmade cycling caps business. When in Sarnia I like to count the number of people I see on bikes (so far, 3 regular bikes + a tandem). How does this city with its one bicycle shop end up w/ someone making custom cycling caps? I suppose it's just another mystery of the world ...
Oh, sweet lugs. Those were really nice.

I didn't make it out to CM after. Other stuff came up that involved sharing and 24 free beer at a friend's place. He lives on Davisville, so it also means I tackled The Hill on Yonge St for the first time on my fixie.. I'm man enough to admit I had to take a couple of side-street bail-outs on my way up. But I wasn't warmed up (I just left work at Bay & Davenport) *and* I was trying not to get to schweaty on my way to his place.
Did anyone else hit CM? What happened to the noodles plan anyway?

Well I went to Saigon Palace on saturday with my friend. I wasn't too terribly impressed with the rare beef noodle (not enough beef). Or maybe it was just early.

stupid question: do I need anything special to tighten chainring bolts? Mine are feeling a little sloppy I think, but I don't know what to use to hold the back side of it to keep it from spinning. I know there IS a tool for that spot, but do I need it? I tried (poorly) using a variety of flat objects (side of a wrench.. butter knife.. etc ), but nothing would stay in the slot well enough for me to get any torque on the other side with the allen wrench.
on a side note: I just stripped my bike down and gave it a good mid-Winter cleaning. Went over everything to try and de-crust it. Did the aluminum foil trick on my fork (worked like a charm) and then used some car wax (Meguiar's Gold! oooh! overkill!) on it. I also finally removed my rear brake and trimmed the cable housing off (that goes under my bar tape).
next purchases: new tires and a new bar.

The spring bike sale's happening already? Man ... that came up quick. Somna, I haven't forgot about our brake lever plan. I'm stuck at home for awhile (family mayhem) so I apologize for not giving you a response yet.

yep! It's that time of the year!
And no worries on the lever.. I'm still rockin' the roadie levers for now, and I also have a tektro cross lever I can use. The only reason I haven't switched to that yet is because I'm thinking about buying a new bar at the show and I don't want to re-wrap my current bars if I'll be getting new ones soon.

Good week-end all? Operator I hope you know I joking with the screw you comment. Banned *goes to da box for two minutes and feels shame*..lol. Ya, take the Citristrip, I'll go pick some up, Crappy Tire carry that?
It's been a wonderfully productive week-end. My wife is all behind my getting a brand new road bike for my 40th birthday...a nice one. Gonna use it for years' worth of charity rides, she works for a promotional company for schwag etc, and one of her clients is Red Bulls. Even the Red Bull girls went to their offices. Guess who now has the bug in their ear about the messer's ice race a couple weeks ago?
To which the response was 'Ohhhhh. cool that's totally something we'd like to do....'
Good news for a possible sponsorship for next year, or maybe even stuff for the year as well. My wife's amazing, she really is.
Bummed I missed the CM ....how'd it go?

I think you need luck to find those crazy deals, so I personally wouldn't expect to find anything. But, at the same time, I was considering heading down on Sunday. That way I can do some shopping, then go hang out and watch people hurt themselves at the Metro Jam pro finals and hard trick comps.
Plus, as you said, there's always the potential of krrrRrAAaAaAZY deals.

MacNeil San To Van video premiere at Toronto Metro
The Toronto Metro has gotten pretty famous for having pretty kick ass video premieres, and this year will be no different.
On Saturday, March 4th the Toronto Metro will host the world premiere of the long-awaited MacNeil road trip video from San Diego to Vancouver at the Bloor Cinema, an 850+ person theatre. The premiere is all ages, and open to the public. The video will start at 9PM, admission is $5.
If you haven't already seen the trailer, you can see it over on the MacNeil site.
Bloor Cinema
506 Bloor Street West (at Bathurst Street)
Saturday, March 4, 2006 – 9PM

I went to the premiere of an Orchid video during the Metro Jam last year, and it was quite the party. Pretty rediculous actually.
