No, because then I'd have leg with a shoe on, and the other without. It would look strange.

But, I once got a swimming leg, but they've never figured out how to do it properly. So the problem is that it either floats or sinks. The leg I had sank. It filled up with water and then when you got out, the water would 'pee' through three holes in the back of the leg. It wasn't the way you wanted to impress the ladies.

Here is a nice tip folks. When repacking pedal bearings, remember to put the correct spindle on the correct side. I just realized that, a bit late.

Just paint the artificial foot to look like a shoe....then you can hit it with a hammer and pretend that it hurt....PSYCH!!

my eggbeaters appear to be ****ed, and that was after trying the spindle in both uhh.. "other bits". put everything back together and they barely turn. It's like the bushing is too big or something.. *shrug*

Keith: I might bring them by for you to take a look at. If they're truly ****ed, well, they weren't expensive and they got me through 2 years of commuting. *Shrug*

That's unfortunate. But, well, I had a tiny dog that got attacked by a German sheppard and had a huge wound on her leg as a result. I was also chased by German sheppards on a bike, and bitten by one once (off a bike). But I don't go around making generalizations about German sheppards.

I always thought it was weird that people bought a dog they knew they would have to muzzle...
The muzzling law is fairly recent (under two years). And lots of people who get pit bulls now do not buy them but rather adopt them from the Humane Society. The Society is overflowing with pit bulls due to the stupid ban, so in my year of dog walking there I saw many dozens of pit bulls. And I know that when (if? ) I have a house with a largish backyard, I'll be getting a rescue dog and it sure as hell is going to be a pit bull.

Any dog can flip out and go crazy, but I can overpower my lab's jaws, but theres no way in hell you could get a pit bull off of your leg/arm/face.
There is (a way in hell). Pit bull jaws are not physiologically different from jaws of any other breed. Check the Wiki article on American pit bulls and urban myths, if you're interested. But anyway, pit bulls rarely attack people unless trained to do it. In some U.S. states some police dogs are pit bulls and are great with the public.

They're pretty damn ugly looking too.
Matter of taste. I think they are one of the greatest-looking breeds around: sleek, muscular, great head shape. If you want ugly, look at bulldogs.

(It's funny how this discussion reminds of talking to motorists about cyclists ).

Yeah, I had to use a hammer and the old cartridge to tap the new bushing in there, but now it's like it's rubbing the spindle. bah. I'm so mechanically ********. It's a good thing I know good bike mechanics..

Yeah, I agree.. the APBT is a fine looking dog. The Bull Terrier is hideous however.. but that might be partly due to my association of them with Don Cherry. I just don't think I have the energy to properly train/exercise/etc such a high energy dog, at least not in the city. But then again, I don't know if I'd really be interested in any dog in the city unless I had (as you said) a big yard.

I had an Irish Setter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_setter) growing up, and my gf and I have always talked about getting another some day.

also, bike talk: I just went to the spray wash with my (mountain) bike. I think the car drivers were confused when they'd try to pull into the booth and I was hosing down my bike. And no, I didn't pull the uber pressure trigger, before you ask.

You're obviously pretty set in your ways. Anyways, I didn't say they were physiologically different, but they do have much stronger jaws than most other kinds of dogs for their size. Just look at the muscles on their head and neck. You can swing a pit bull on a rope in crazy circles through the air and the little bastards will never let go. They also have quite short jaws meaning you can't get much leverage to pry their mouths open should they bite you. If banning pit bulls is the way to stop bad people from owning them and training them to attack, I think its great. Just like banning guns hugely reduces gun crime. Frankly, I don't care about good people who are pissed that they don't get to have guns anymore. Anyways, since ten million people can't settle this I doubt we can.

Hey Shamil and Mitch, did you guys get your Call of Duty 2 disc images yet?

If so, let's rumble!

Wes: Let me know about the pedals. I might stop by the safety meeting tomorrow evening.

Also, do you want to get in on some WWII action via Call of Duty 2?

In one attempt to measure biting pressure of three dogs, a pit bull scored lowest of all, less than a sheppard and a rotti. Granted, it's not a scientific study, but neither are your claims. I see no reasons to claim that a rottweiler or a cane corso or a bull terrier or a ton of other dog breeds has wearker jaws than pit bulls.

If banning pit bulls is the way to stop bad people from owning them and training them to attack, I think its great.
The problem with this is that people just switch to other breeds of dogs. Outlaw pit bulls, they'll switch to rotties. Ban rotties, they'll find something else - there are lots of big strong breeds to choose from who would actually make more dangerous "pets" since they naturally show more aggression towards humans, on average. Singling out one breed like this does zilch for bite statistics. Every single dog expert I know of is against breed bans since they're useless and cruel. It's not at all like banning guns, it's like banning only revolvers. What would work is keeping good track of dogs with a history of aggressive behaviour and taking strong measures with their owners, since basically all dogs who've ever bitten somebody to cause injuries have a prior history of aggression building up. Alas, that takes money and political will. It's much cheaper, faster and more popular to just ban a breed: does nothing to solve dog-biting problems, causes much suffering to thousands of good dogs and their owners but scores easy political points. Disgusting.
