Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I ordered some decent scales and they came in last night. My '15 aluminum Cannondale Synapse 5 Disc 105 weighs in just under 21.5 lbs with everything taken off except the mounts for my Garmin, tail light, headlight, pump, water bottle cage, and the Garmin speed/cadence sensor and magnets. That's with Gatorskins and whatever tubes my lbs sold me too. I do have a lighter than stock seat on it now and Mavic Asksiums that probably aren't much if any lighter than the stock wheels - I haven't weighed them yet. If I totally stripped all the mounts off and put some lighter tires and tubes on it I'm still not sure it would come in under 20lbs - maybe?

I believe the Synapse has a beefier aluminum and frame than a CAAD for instance as an 'Endurance' bike. The good news is that it's about 10lbs+ lighter than my old mountain bike that I was riding last year LOL. The not so good news is that with everything loaded including water bottle and my bag with my phone in it my riding weight is more like 25lbs+

Nice to know 21.5lbs is a average ballpark weight.

Update: I did order a set of Continental Grand Prix 4000S II and Continental race tubes - took off all of the mounts for everything except I didn't fool with my Garmin GSC 10 speed/cadence sensor. Weighing in at 20.72 now. If I had lighter wheels it would easily be below 20lbs, but I'm still not forking out for a lighter disc brake wheel set.

Weighed in at 22 lbs when I first built it, but new wheels and bits and bobs probably has it around 20 lbs.

15.6 lbs without the saddlebag. I have new wheels on the way, so the weight might be down a tad soon.

Just weighed my bike. With new stem, bars, tires and seatpost Im down almost 5lbs. Total weight 20.7 lbs. For me 20.7lbs isn't to bad for a cyclocross bike.

18.64lbs ready to ride. Almost 6 of it tied up in the wheels & tires alone.

eventual goal is down to 17 or so... but that'll require quite a bit of upgrading.
