Knocked out another 40 miles today, which put me a bit over a hundred between yesterday and today. I don't get a ton of time to ride, so it was nice to be able to put in some substantial mileage.

Haha, I've been to Catalina dozens of time, but have never once slept on the island, only on a boat. Kind of like RV camping on water.
We really should haul ourselves up to the airport at some point. The pace of things on a boat is just different somehow. You wake up late, lounge around half the morning drinking coffee, then at some point wander ashore and suddenly it's 2 in the afternoon- too late to start anything too ambitious. So you take a shower and get cleaned up and now it's pretty close to happy hour. Might as well head to Doug's.

For being around so many boats, we aren't really boat people or heavy water activity people. We don't really have any toys like the many people there, but we do hit the paragliding occasionally. We hit the mini golf course many times, might rent a golf cart but it is pretty steep. My grandmother had a house in Avalon, she passed about 10 years ago but she has a brick carved in her name still. We don't own the house any more, but my parents sure enjoyed it in their early 20's.
Most of our days are lazy days spent laying on the beach tanning, might walk and get a chocolate covered banana or smoothie but when you get that relaxed it is hard to do anything.

Find out the name of the secret folder if you think of it. I had a corrupt file just a few days ago.
Ruh oh. I've been in that weird "I won't pair" situation many a time.
According to Garmin, this sometimes happens due to corrupted data files. Youre supposed to delete data files from your unit, so make sure you've got all the files off the 810. Then there's this secret folder that looks empty but really has stuff in it, that's where corrupted data files sometimes hide. You have to delete this entire folder, which looks like a big mistake. But then it gets reinstalled the next time you connect the Garmin to your computer. Or something like that. I forget the exact details. It's so tedious that I had to put Mr H in charge of this step. But I will admit that it does actually seem to help. I'll have to ask him the details on what exactly this folder is called and how to delete it.
Strangely my 510 is now working better than the 1000. I asked Mr H to call Garmin today to return the 1000. Somehow based on the data files that we sent them, the ones I posted here with the cadence & power drop-outs, Garmin concluded the problem was with the speed-cadence sensor. Which makes zero sense, given the power drop outs. Before he could tell them we wanted to return the 1000, they offered to send a free cadence sensor. Mr H said ok, since we know this won't fix anything, we can at least get a free cadence sensor out of this whole gory mess. Then return the 1000 anyway.
Now the Magic Bike will have:
1. Stages power meter
2. Garmin speed/cadence sensor
3. Garmin speed sensor
4. Garmin cadence sensor
5. Garmin Edge 510
6. Garmin Edge 1000
Haha and it still won't work.

I've only untied my lace-up fancy bike shoes a couple of times in 3 years or so. Once I get 'em dialed in, I just pop 'em off and squeeze back into them.
