Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It was a very rude welcome back from a rest week, @Heathpack. I thought I was going to pass out.

4x10' 40"/20" Z5/6 topped off with 2x10' 20"/40" big gear gear starts. On the 4x10's, I was told to shoot for 130w above ftp. Pretty close, I think, but it's hard to tell. It was horrid in a pretty good way.

Have I mentioned how jealous I am of your rides?

Yikes. Sounds very bad-ass though.

I am having fun noodling around on my bike this week, 100%. But I'm setting up a training ride for Breathless Agony for a week from Sat. That's going to be 30 miles continuously uphill. So I'll be back at it soon enough.

Just a strong and very fun ride. You guys who only ride 20 miles at a time are maybe onto something, you can for sure ride a little harder when it's a shortish route.

We went north up the coast, big whitecaps out in Monterey Bay today. Then we headed inland and rode in Fort Ord, which has a lot of roads closed to motorists. A little hillier there, mostly rollers, so not real long climbs. But some 10% stuff into headwinds, today was the kind of day where that seemed fun. Plus nice to ride and chat, meet somebody IRL after only knowing them online.

Oh yeah. And mile 8000 on Magic Bike today. I've said it before, I'm totally glad I bought that bike.

What a total blast riding with you today! Like you said, there is nothing like meeting someone IRL and then going out and crushing it for a while - which we did! Hey lady, you are strong one, and I mean STRONG. Congratulations on Magic Bike getting that 8000 mile mark. That's way cool!!

Work is a four letter word IMO. Always gets in the way of riding.

Speaking of which, no work today. Weekly Wednesday Fun Ride with my club.

Still fat but getting thinner every week. Started riding daily 34 days ago, only 4 days off since then. I want to try to ride the MTB at least once a week in the woods. Helps your bike handling. And it's really nice out in the woods around here. Except when this happens:

That's Goosepond Mtn State Park, 4 miles from my house, that's where I ride on the trail, it's really beautiful there. Not too technical. They really do have some bears, but they don't chase people around in real life.

Well it's been confirmed, 1 hour a day of moderate exercise ( defined as brisk walking) is the plateau at which further time and effort is of absolutely no benefit. Good thing the reason I do it is that I love it and how it makes me feel.

That reminds me. We were talking about fast food for recovery. Was ice cream on that list? How about a double dip peanut butter and chocolate in a waffle cone? I need to know for my training diary and future reference.

Ice cream is on every list of helpful foods. In fact, ice cream is the foundation on which the food pyramid is established. Without it, the food pyramid would be like a box of toothpicks dumped on the floor.

Right, no further benefit to the specific end results being screened for. Lots more benefit for other results we may care about. I mean who ONLY cares about a longer life?

I detect you are referring specifically to rum-raisin. The bomb! And in Houston there is a gelato flavor, fig-almond. TDF. To die for, to die from, take your pick.

Any flavor ice cream is the foundation. At the foundation the pyramid simply says "Ice Cream".

The important question about a day off is, "What's for lunch?" Priorities, man, priorities. At least tell me it will be professionally prepared.

So what is the caption to the cartoon with all the foods scattered around like toothpicks, "Ice Cream Shrugged"?
