My son ate a lot of hot pockets when he was about 12 and developed a nasty constipation/diarrhea syndrome. My doctor called hot pockets butt corks. Or wait, maybe I called them that; I can't remember.

...this happens all the time, and any mechanic who says different is confabulating. I still mentally review various left hand and right hand threadings as I approach them, and I've been involved with a great many of them. And I usually have to inspect the damn derailleur to decide which limit screw is which limit.

My Vette needs an alternator and apparently coming up with one so my car can get back on the road is beyond the corporate capabilities of all of General Motors. So my brand new used car is sitting disabled at a Chevy dealer up here. It's not like an alternator for a 2007 Corvette is the rarest part for the most obscure car of all time. They sold 20,000 of these cars in 2007, and an alternator has to be one of the more common major parts that routinely break on cars.
And they wonder why the whole world is buying Toyotas.
Don't wonder so hard you Detroit imbeciles.

Don't wonder so hard you Detroit imbeciles.
It's all starting to make sense to me now.

I've rebuilt a few alternators. Briefly worked at a scam battery/alternator joint where we swapped out perfectly good or close to it alternators all day every day.

...I scored some 3 X 7's at a LBS inventory clearance yesterday for a ten spot. Tge girl I'm helping with a touring build needs them because hers were somehow frozen solid in the uninstalled position. But boy 10's for 55 bucks is pretty tempting. I passed on a set of Dura-Ace hubs that were astonishingly beautiful, mostly because they had one of those early 7 speed freehub cog arrangements where everything is loose and the lock ring is threaded ass backwards. But they were stunningly beautiful as far as parts go.

I can get a rebuilt alternator sooner for like $200, but I'm holding out for a factory fresh brand new Chevy part. The dealer is paying for it anyway. Not worth saving a week to put in a rebuilt alternator on a $30K used car.

I do 98% of my miles solo, and it sounded like he mostly rides solo too. So there was some first date awkwardness as far as being in front and how to transition.
Even after an hour I was still unsure about his natural pace. He didn't have any problem keeping up with me, but when he was in front, at times I wanted to go a bit faster, especially uphill. He's a bit on the thin side (6'2", 160 pounds) so I don't know how much climbing power he has.
Funny accent: He's says he's lived in Tennessee most of his life, except for four years in New Hampshire. But if he had told me the opposite (all but four years in the Granite State) I would have found it more believable. He sure doesn't sound like someone from Chattanooga.
