Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My son ate a lot of hot pockets when he was about 12 and developed a nasty constipation/diarrhea syndrome. My doctor called hot pockets butt corks. Or wait, maybe I called them that; I can't remember.

Maybe the Wilpons (Mets ownership) secretly owns GM as well.

It's all starting to make sense to me now.

...I can remember when we rebuilt our own alternators, that's how old I am. Last time I did it was on a '78 Malibu in like 1986.

I've rebuilt a few alternators. Briefly worked at a scam battery/alternator joint where we swapped out perfectly good or close to it alternators all day every day.

I remember when I installed my own clutch on my 1971 Datsun B1200 (yes Datsun, that was before they reverted to Nissan here in the USA). I put the car back together and it sounded like there was a card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel, but the clutch outlived the car (another 50K miles or so) and it always worked, so I guess I did something right. I was like 19 at the time when I did that repair in my Dad's driveway. I always hated working on cars, but I had to do it, couldn't always afford to pay the mechanics. Used to do tune ups, oil changes, etc. My Dad (RIP) he seemed to like doing that ****. I hated it.

I can get a rebuilt alternator sooner for like $200, but I'm holding out for a factory fresh brand new Chevy part. The dealer is paying for it anyway. Not worth saving a week to put in a rebuilt alternator on a $30K used car.

Good to know that. I won't feel so embarrassed when working by myself and forgetting.

I do 98% of my miles solo, and it sounded like he mostly rides solo too. So there was some first date awkwardness as far as being in front and how to transition.

Even after an hour I was still unsure about his natural pace. He didn't have any problem keeping up with me, but when he was in front, at times I wanted to go a bit faster, especially uphill. He's a bit on the thin side (6'2", 160 pounds) so I don't know how much climbing power he has.

Funny accent: He's says he's lived in Tennessee most of his life, except for four years in New Hampshire. But if he had told me the opposite (all but four years in the Granite State) I would have found it more believable. He sure doesn't sound like someone from Chattanooga.
