Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I rode a lot in college on roads like that near Champaign-Urbana. They are flat.

The wind there makes up for it. With no significant hills or trees to break it up it is much more of a pia than the same wind in a place that is not as flat as an ocean on a calm day.

Champaign-Urbana is way more flatter than where I live. We actually have river valleys and bluffs here and there, whereas Champaign is table top flat.

It's flat here but not totally. We are along the Illinois River valley and have quite a bit of rolling land. Even the flats tend to roll a little. We don't have to travel far to find super flat if we want but the reverse is true, also.

BTW, after the corn gets up, we can't see so far and don't feel so bad. We also have instant bathroom convenience.

Lots of threads on BF about WD40 not being a good chain lube... sounds like it works well for about everything else.

Pcad's C6 is back @ the ranch. New alternator, no other issues, dealer paid for everything. Car runs like new. Loving it.

The dealer stepped up and did the right thing in as timely a fashion as could have been expected. Car runs like new. And having a brand new factory fresh alternator (a new Chevy part, not a re-build) on a 7 year old car is not a bad thing, that's a component that does tend to break, particularly on cars that don't get driven every day.

...by the time you sell that car, the dealer will probably have so much of your money that the alternator costs will be chump change. That looks like the sort of machine you want factory trained mechanics to work on, or some specialist guy who costs even more. The dealer mechs are worth it just because they get all the updated service bulletins on particular idiosyncratic problems.

Forgive me for this BS, but can nobody on BF spell "advice" anymore? Every single use of the word since I can't remember has been spelled "advise". What's going on?

10 years ago this month I smoked my last cigarette. One of the greatest achievements of my life.

I think one would actually need to have been be a long term smoking addict yourself to truly appreciate how it feels to finally get that monkey off your back.

Happy Birthday to me!

A car was coming so we moved back into the lane behind her. The car went by and we pulled out and passed her for real. I said "What are you doing? I thought you'd enjoy following her." He said "Not that slowly." I said "I thought slowly was good. You've got your leisure to admire, maybe fantasize a little." He said "All I want to do is get home, get in the shower, and get on the couch. I've got no time for butt-admiration." I laughed then and I'm still chuckling as I type this. I love that guy.

Congratulations and I totally agree. I quit a 3 pack a day habit in 1982 and I consider it my number one lifetime achievement.

Did you get a certificate, too?
