Handlebar tape recommendations
Greetings. I'm looking for a padded handlebar tape without adhesive backing. I really like the cork-style wraps (especially Cinelli), but they often leave adhesive residue that mucks up the bars. Does anyone have a suggestion for a medium to thick handlebar tape that does not use adhesive backing to stay in place? Thanks for your suggestions.

PRO bar tape. The stuff rocks. It's got adhesive, but it doesn't stick to the bars. I used the white for a while and it stayed nice and clean, now I'm on black with white hoods. I ride the cobbles and bad roads everyday and I still love the stuff.

I recently redid my bars with Fizik and trying to remove the paper strip was a hugh PITA. I finally managed but will never used that tape again for that reason and I don't like the way it looks.

I find Planet Bike tape to be pretty comfy. It has "adhesive" but comes away cleanly when removed and comes in a zillion delightful colors. Also it has no "backing" if I recall correctly, with the exception of the extra pieces they include for wrapping the bend directly underneath your hoods.

tears easily.
okay, I don't know, but I use cinelli cork anyways, since they are comfortable.
I also use deda foam, but I'm looking to try out fizik microtex.
I have no idea why, but cinelli insists on using a super strong adhesive for the backing and it causes the tape to tear if you're not careful unwinding it. I pat down my bars with some talcum powder before using cinelli to lessen their adhesion.

Deda cork tape. Cheap, comfy and available in any color you'd need.
I prefer very little to no padding in my gloves, so the cork gives me just enough comfort.

Deda cork tape is good stuff. Just as comfortable as Cinelli but it doesn't have that annoying scotch tape like Cinelli. And it's a bit stretchier so you can pull it nice and tight when wrapping without fear of tearing it like Cinelli.

i tried Cinelli, and deda cork. I avoided that microtex thing because it is thin. My fave is bontrager gel tape because it is soft, eleastic and thick. Like putting your hands on a leather sofa.

My out-&-out favorite so far has been the Felt bar tape. It doesn't have the adhesive, but it does have just enough of something on the underside to keep the tape from sliding while you're wrapping the bars.
The only downsides are it's hard to find and it's available in black, white and every color in between...

I am currently using the lizard skinz bar tape in white. I love it! wraps easily, has some good "cush" to it, grip is phenominal. the downsides to this tape is the durability isn't great. I have only ridden 600 miles with it on and it is already starting to rip a little just below my hoods. The other bad thing is that it is fairly expensive. I got mine for $27, I have seen it as low as $24 on the internet and as high at $38 in stores. Great tape BUT there are just as good of bar tape around at half the price.

Talk about a blast from the past!
I've been riding Bontragel Gel Cork for the last few years. It feels as nice as the Cinelli, without the adhesive backing. I occasionally need to rewrap the bars as the tape shifts over time, but it's hardly the end of the world.
