Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Reliable, inexpensive campy wheelset?

What reliable and inexpensive campy wheelset can you recommend? I have a few options ...

Just get a new rear wheel (front one is fine) for ~100:

Easton Vista Rear Wheel Campagnolo | Chain Reaction Cycles

Or get two new wheels for just a bit more:

wiggle.com | Campagnolo Khamsin Asymmetric G3 Wheelset | Road Race Wheels

The Fulcrums are another option I found.

There's also a "CX" version of the Racing 7s that purportedly only work with campy 10/11 speed cassettes ... what's the difference between the CX version of the R7s and the non CX version? Someone said the hub was sealed better on the CX version ... if so ... I might just get the CX versions as I ride in the rain sometimes.

Any other options? Your opinions?

I don't want to ride over a bump in the road and have to take my wheels in for a true. The Eastons were exactly that - reliable. But I want to try something new too. I don't care about weight.

I just bought the campy sciroccos from wiggle and so far I love them. Nice and deep. Quiet freewheel. Little heavy but I don't really care that much.

Fulcrums are made by Campagnolo, with two main differences:
1. You can find them with Shimano bodies (some Campag wheels now come with Shimano bodies as well, but it wasn't always so).
2. They use the 2:1 lacing ratio on the back wheel, but not the stupid grouping of spokes into groups of threes.

The low level Fulcrums and Campag factory wheels roll whell, are bombproof, and cheap. I've been using a Fulcrum 5 as a training wheel for about 5 years now with only one issue: it's damn hard to mount tires on. Because of the stupid three-spoke pattern, I'd ride a Fulcrum 7 over a Khamsin wheel, or Fulcrum 5 if you can afford it – the eyelets on the 5 should make a stronger wheel.

I just started using the Campagnolo Khamsin G3's since last weekend, a little less than a 100 miles total so far. They seem fine to me, will be using them for longer club rides (30-50 miles) no complaints at the moment. As a BTW, Wiggle sent the pair to me from the UK to Hawaii in 4 days w/ free shipping. Both wheels came with a certification letter with serials/qr code + warranty. Never had that quality of shipping and packing materials before.

If you are going to look at Fulcrum 7's or 5's, look at the 2014 or newer models. That is the year they folded in the offset rear rim, and did 100g weight reduction on each wheelset. I would assume that this carries over to the Campy versions as well (Khamsin and Vento, IIRC). I also seem to recall that the older Vento had the G3 lacing on the front wheel, which would go in the undesirable bucket.

I have Fulcrum 7's on the rain bike, and have been satisfied with them.
