Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saddle help

hi all,

I'm riding a track bike daily, about 50 miles, and ride it on the track at races.

I have been using a Brooks B17 narrow imperial for the past year and it's super comfortable.

I picked up a cheap Romin Evo to use though, thinking it may be comfortable and provide better power transfer.

Yesterday I did about 20 miles, today 50 miles. Butt hurts quite a lot on the sit bones. I've adjusted the seat to the right height and think I have it in the right fore/aft position. I've slightly dipped the nose (the middle of the seat which was initially flat was slightly less uncomfortable when I tilted it forward a little).

its the right size for me-155- and I measured.

So, it's still pretty uncomfortable, at least compared to my Brooks.

Is that normal? That a saddle like this is going to take some getting used to for my ass?

Thanks for advice in advance.

I think it's normal to need time to adjust to a new saddle.

I don't believe it's possible to measure one's way to a comfy saddle, and think the max saddle width numbers don't tell us anything important; we sit more on the middle of the saddle, and not on the ischial tuberosities, so the shape and width of that part of the saddle is key.

Not all saddles will be comfortable for a given person. There is a significant difference between the general shape of the Romin and the Brooks. Obviously the Brooks is a better fit for you. Also, keep in mind that once a Brooks is broken in, it conforms to your body. If the Brooks is comfortable, just stay with it. There is no substitute for a comfortable saddle.

If it is a pretty serous pain in your sit bones & you've done as much adjusting as you think you can, it's likely the wrong saddle for you.

Dear All,
Apologize, I got some relevant comments from a reader. I did not formulate my thought clearly.
I have nothing (yet, lets see after 2000 km) again Brooks nor Suntour,

I am just furious about the bike shop I bot my bycle, more than CHF 5000 ( about same in usd or euro ), bot all accessories at him, paid CASH .
Theis guy just installed it, and he did not even ask me to test it, just let me go.
Actually, it was obvious the SUNTOUR is not suitable with brooks saddle, on forum it was clearly mentioned ( did not look before )
i trusted this guy because he is one of the oldest in town, my father bot me my first byclicle 50 years ago.
and this is just a few problems i encountered with him !

i am furious ! and will make it know URBI & ORBI , on french, english and german forum, but before this, I am negociation with my protection juridique insurance, (yes, the swiss are insured for everything ... ) to see how he can retaliate if i mention this geneva genève suisse switzerland bike shop name.

you are gone say, i lost a lot of time ... no, i have nothing to do, i am just retired !

Take it up with the shop in question rather than posting these same comments in multiple threads.
