Upgrading groupset and bottom bracket (newbie question)
I hope I'm posting in the right section!
I want to upgrade to Shimano 105 5800 11 speed groupset and I was wondering if I could. Here is my bike (Fuji Sportif 1.3 C Road Bike - 2014).
What I don't understand is about the bottom brackets since there are so many standards. My bike has a bb86 to fit the crank and the 105 uses the bbr60, i think. I was looking at this bottom bracket standards (https://problemsolversbike.com/files/..._Reference.pdf) and bb86 is longer and narrower! The hole that the crank arm goes into on my bike is about 90cm x 50cm. Here is the picture that I took (https://i.imgur.com/imu2Hjf.jpg). I will probably have to get a 11 speed wheel and i can grab a couple from craigslist (SF bay area).
Will the 105 5800 crank set with the bottom bracket (bbr60 68mm or 77mm?) fit into my bike or do I have to use some adapters? By the Look of it, 68mm looks too short --- and too wide [ ] enough to fit into my bike (refer to imgur img). How can I make it fit or I've been misunderstanding this hole bottom bracket thing?

You need an adaptor. I also think Praxis designs work well. "Ask a Mechanic" posted a good video about this topic on YouTube a few weeks ago.
Standard threadless BB rant attached below:
To me, bottom brackets are the most needlessly annoying aspect of buying and upgrading bikes these days. Manufacturers have screwed everything up with the ridiculous proliferation of press fit standards. Also, none of these standards work as well as older threaded standards. Messing around with adaptors can work but is always less than ideal. I really don't understand why bike manufacturers decided to take something that was foolproof (standardized threaded BBs) and screw it up so badly. Saving manufacturing cost?
This bad decision is exacerbated by the fact that new cyclists don't know that this invisible part that they should just take for granted is something they need to consider carefully when buying a bike. This concern is especially true if, like the OP, they plan to upgrade the components. Personally, BB type would be my second biggest consideration after fit when considering a frame. Now that threaded BBs are getting rare on quality bikes, my options are increasingly limited. Screw you, bike makers. Bring back threaded.

You don't need a bottom bracket adapter. You just need to buy a Shimano BB86 bottom bracket. They are not very expensive:
Amazon.com : Shimano BB72-41B PressFit Road Bottom Bracket : Bottom Bike Brackets And Accessories : Sports & Outdoors
Or just use the one currently in your bike, it'll probably work fine.

FYI "bbr60" is the name of Shimano's standard 105/Ultegra level English/Italian threaded bottom bracket. That's just what they tend to throw in with groupsets as it's still the most universal standard. Some companies will allow you to switch that out for a press-fit version.

OK, not to discourage you from upgrading your bike, but it's practically new and the difference from 10 spd tiagra to 11 spd 105 will be small.
In other news, are your wheels 11 spd compatible? It says they're disk hubs and I know jack about disk brakes for road bikes.
If you really want to upgrade your bike, get new wheels and upgrade the group when your tiagra wears out. That's what I'd do at least, but it's your money.

Wheels are a killer here, with the 11 speed hub, and the limited availability of aftermarket options (although this is steadily growing)
Add to that disc standards are in flux for road bikes, buy something today and there is no guarantee that today's standard will be around in a year or 2. 12mm front hubs & thru axle hubs F&R are the big things here.

I believe (but stand to be corrected) that the Tiagra crank uses a 24mm spindle, the same as 105. So if a Tiagra double crank works with the BB in the bike, the 105 crank will as well.
Easy way to tell is try it. If it doesn't work buy a new BB.

Your replies has been very informational! Thank you very much and I will keep everything you guys said in my mind. I'll continue to ride with my current groupset for a while and then upgrade! Shimano 105 5800 hits the sweet spot for me. It looks good and performs well (that matte finish) and priced fairly ($400 for groupset), maybe less by the time I upgrade.
