Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It took two years to get a photo upload option, they're not the fastest, but with enough time and complaints, they get there.

Try going to your profile tab, then click activities, then scroll...it has all of my activities all the way back to 2/11/13 (first day I started using Strava)

I follow about 5-8 cyclists. But the one that I MOST want to follow never uploads her data the same day as she rides.
Consequently, I never see her rides, because they don't appear on page one of my dashboard.

They dumb it down. I've found that they are doing some type of "smoothing" as they call it on the more accurate GPS devices, which sample more often than the less accurate ones like smartphones. They are trying to make it fair for all the smartphone users or something like that. If I program in a segment on my Garmin it will be 1-2 seconds slower on Strava.

My Garmin Edge 510 automatically uploads to Garmin Connect through the blue tooth on my phone. Then Garmin Connect feeds into Strava. I have never noticed much of a difference between GC and Strava. Then again, I never pay attention to Gamin Connect as nobody I know uses it.

Although I use a smartphone app, I've found my times and speeds are huge differences. On my smartphone I'll average 28.5 and strava will display as 27.9 then other times my average around the city was 26.5 and Strava displayed it as 23, that's a BIG difference.

Is the GPS smart phone more accurate or Strava? Anyone know?

Are you talking about using the Strava smartphone app or some other app that then gets imported into Strava?
If you were comparing your Garmin to the smartphone app, I'd say the Garmin was more accurate. I can't imagine why the Strava app would report a different value initially and then change it later.

Would it help if I said I was sorry?

Now that I've switched to a Garmin (310xt) I'm finding that I'm consistently getting credit for about 10% less elevation on the same ride as guys on their smartphone apps. Very annoying.

I've been wondering about this. I use Cyclemeter, and Strava will generally report shorter distances and longer times. I was thinking the time discrepancy might be due to disagreeing about what is stopped time vs moving time, but wasn't sure about distance. However, reading this has gotten me to dig up this article
https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/2...-is-Calculated (which I haven't finished yet)

You can always hit the website from your phone/tablet for functionality missing from the app. Though I do agree they should get more functionality into the app.

I'd like a way to filter segments as road vs. off-road.

Also, a way to put the people I follow into different groups.

Any activity other than cycling or running gets very little support. I would like to see better support for hiking stats.

Have you tried the Flybys in Strava Labs? Very cool. It is mostly for entertainment, but I hope they make it a regular feature.

I would like audible timing intervals, every 10 km or every 30 minutes to let me know how I am doing

I wish it was easier to pull out my monthly totals for riding and "running"....it just lumps the two together, it made me STOP entering anything pedestrian Into Strava, I log in cyclemeter, then shove data into Strava, it is EASY to get a monthly or weekly total mi from Cyclemeter. I had decided jan 1 to just log everything into Strava but I got a RFLCT+ and cyclemeter works a lot better with it than Strava, Strava will "work" but it is easier (you can create your own data screens) and more supported with cyclemeter.

What I am reading is that some of the aps use wheel speed "in ap" if you have a wheel speed sensor, but then when they "log" the ride they dump the wheel speed, and altimeter data if it is from a phone or RFLCT+...and revert to GPS data. Which makes sense, no quibbles there, but it might explain what you are seeing.

In creating one's own routes, I kinda wish you toggle on/off the "Use Popularity" for any waypoint segment(s) you want, ie. so you can create a custom route made up of popular routes for segments plus segments that are manually selected. I think the way it works changes all waypoints as soon as you turn it on.

Somewhat accurate elevation would be nice, though not strictly a fault with just Strava. Nothing like a group ride with elevation stats varying by 200m on relatively flat roads...

I just realized that some of Strava's issues is how people get their data into Strava. Some of use a GPS/Cycle Computer that feeds into Strava or some other website, and then into Strava. Some of us use Smart phones and either use the Strava app or another app that feeds into Strava. This must be a challenge to the developers at Strava.

Thinking about this, I think they are doing a fairly decent job.
