Your Weekend Cycling/Sports Reports - April 18/19
Where did you cycle this weekend ... or the surrounding week? Or did you do other sports? Tell us all about it.

Saturday -- 92.32 km ride
First, we stopped by two LBSs to try to find headlights. DST ended a couple weeks ago, and darkness falls early. We were hoping to pick both up at one LBS ... but he only had one in stock.
On the way back to the van from the second shop, the cleat in my cycling shoe slipped on the curb, and my ankle did a neat little twist. The pain faded on the way to the start point and vanished from mind ... until we started climbing our first hill. Ouch.
The route was lumpy with lots of up and down ... this is, after all, Tasmania. But it could have been worse. It meandered through the countryside around Richmond and near one of the larger beaches, and was quite scenic. There were a number of curious animals around too ... horses, alpacas, sheep.
The day was windy. There were marine gale warnings, and on land we had gusts up to about 60 km/h. Our route took us into the wind for a large part of the beginning of the ride, up and down hills, all while battling the wind. Fortunately, the last 14 km going into Richmond for our 55 km lunch stop had a tailwind and we covered the distance in no time.
All this time the temps were nice and warm (20C), and the sun was shining.
Lunch was at the Richmond Bakery ... yummy!!
The weather started to change for the worst, so we set off again to cover the last 37 km. More hills, more wind shifting around in all directions and gathering clouds.
There we were being blown about from various directions in a relatively warm wind, when all of a sudden we were hit with a blast right from Antarctica! The temperature plummeted and the rain began. We were quickly into our rain jackets and full-fingered gloves.
Fortunately the rain wasn't particularly heavy ... but it was chilly with the falling temperatures and howling wind.
It was something of a tough ride, but nevertheless, 10 km more than last weekend.
Tired legs, sore ankle, and a troublesome left shoulder as usual. Character-building!!

I had one of the worst rides since I started eleven months ago. I've been training for a half century, to be done in six days. Last week, I rode 48.5 miles and felt great, but today was not my day. After 25 miles, I was ready to pack it in. My wife wasn't home. If I thought my daughter was awake, I would have called to be picked up. My left knee started hurting by mile 5. It was on fire by mile 30. It made me twist and contort my left leg to compensate, which caused more pain elsewhere. I coasted as much as I could for the last mile at about 9 mph. This is not what I wanted a week before a planned half century on my 50th birthday.
Im going to rest as much as possible this week with a couple of light rides Monday and Wednesday in preparation for Friday's 50. I'm pretty concerned now for Friday.

Rest, ice the knee, do a little stretching.
Was there something that changed during your week? Did you go for a long walk? Change chairs at work?
What about what you were wearing while cycling? New shorts or bibs?

I did my first organized ride today in maybe five years. It was the Ocean to Bay in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Perfect weather, completely flat and scenic route, and extremely well organized. I forgot how enjoyable those rides can be when you recognize and treat them as fun.

Sunday -- On a much cooler autumn day, Rowan and I drove to a beach across the river, and did a light 19.05 km ride along the shore. About half the ride was on the road, the other half was on the foreshore cycling path.

Not that big Machka.. like 5" wide. 6-8" long maybe for his shell.. then another few inches for his head/neck. normal Painted Turtle. decent size for one of those but not like a snapping turtle that are much bigger. these guys aren't aggressive either.
Sun: quick 18mi ride while my GF went for an hour run. last few miles back to the car had big time headwind.. oof.

Finally back on the road after a collapsed lung 5 weeks ago. Got in a 15 mile ride, really nowhere special other than some saddle time. No speed records were set and I did not push the envelope, just enjoyed my ride.

The weather was a bit unsettled in the hills around Boulder, Colorado but the temps were just about right for a nice weekend of riding the canyons. I totaled about 100 miles of canyon riding with around 15K feet of gain over the weekend.

Saturday had a strong 40+ mile ride to Picnic Is. and then to Davis Is. Sunday I went to Weedon Is. (covered all the islands this weekend) and back to Bayshore for about 40 miles. The only annoying thing on Sunday was a pretty strong headwind. I was going to drop into the smaller front chain ring when my left brifter broke. I'm not sure why. Probably from disuse. The brakes still work, but it will not shift. I guess I need to post in the Bike Repair subforum for some advice.

Genetics have failed me
Sunday co-worker and I rode down south to the Tegernsee. Beautiful lake close to the alps. Sat outside a restaurant, enjoyed the view and food and turned around home. It was a good day. 5 minutes after we had our bikes parked at a tree, a little 3-4 yr old kid decided he needed to park his bike with the big boys. It was so cute we had to take a picture of it.

Yeaterday i rode 100.3 miles from san jose to San Francisco and back. The weather was 55F cloudy with light rain. I did this on my Dahon mu p8 folding bike.
