Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks cool, but making them in any color other than black is kind of stupid. It appears they don't even come in black.

I have them and like them. They definitely fit the bill for making them easier to walk in and you don't tear up the metal part of the cleat. I also think then mate with the pedal easier - the plastic part sort of guides the cleat and pedal together.

I thought the screw in caps to keep dirt out where brilliant until I tried them. The idea is great except this rendering is not. If you have any twist to your foot while walking or if you turn and pivot on your foot (hard not to do, actually), in very short order a cap will come out. So I think this part of the design has a lot of merit but it's not actually ready for prime time.

All in all, I think they are an improvement but still needs some work.

I use those keepon kovers on my cleats which also make use of the extender plate. This combo seems to work great. That metal plate ensures the cleat is 100% flat no matter what torque is on the mounting screws, thus cleat engagement is no problem. Walking on the kool covers, while not as good as like an spd shoe, is a little better than on the cleat alone, and seems to keep gack out of the cleats. I might try these newest things, depending on what I read abut them in the coming months.

I've been using the keep on covers for over a year now and ocassionally get a sqeek from the rubber connector rubbing on the pedal spindle.

Yes you don't have to remove them when you ride.

If you have ever heard the annoying noise that the keep-on covers make then you might reach the same conclusion that I have and this is an improvement.

I'd try them, but sadly Speedplay is one of the few products I can't get on the cheap.

They force me to pay dealer cost.

I need an aero advantage on my cleat covers like I need to tape the fender gaps our station wagon to get better mileage. Any advantage would be too insignificant to notice.

I picked up a barely used set (2 x 15-mile rides) of stainless steel zero's off eBay for $100 shipped, cleats included.

Mine don't make any noise. I would never put up with it if they did. One of the things I like most about my ride is how nice and quiet it is.

Describe this alleged noise?

A normal set of Speedplay cleats cost me $18. These look a little spendy to me.

Well, they cost the rest of us $40 so while it's nice that you get some sort of industry discount, it's fairly pointless to brag about it here.

I'll just stick with keep on kovers - my current speedplay cleats are coming up on 8k miles and look new, although the kovers are looking a little ragged.

bragging about paying $18 isn't the point.

Speedplay is now asking $65 for cleats??? **** that.

Do you ride year round in all types of weather? It is a squeak that stops as soon as the keep on covers are removed. Much more than alleged, proven with witnesses. Your skepticism although noted does not change my experience.

The quote I got from my LBS is $55. which is +$15 over the price of replacement cleats without the walkable part but still less than the cost of replacement cleats plus new keep on covers. Thanks for adding your 2 cents to the thread on if these work. I would surmise that most with your dollars and cents outlook on things cycling likely will not be the target market anyway. Have you actually used them? If not how exactly is your post relevant to this thread? You think the price point is too high, Ok got that.

For me in my current situation speedplay cleats are what work. I spend more hours on the bike than most and my comfort is worth nearly whatever the cost. I don't pinch pennies when it comes to my bike as no matter the cost is is far cheaper than the cost if I was not to ride. Many do not share my outlook and circumstances in life. This thread is to see if others have tried them and how they like them. I appreciate @BoSoxYacht 's perspective even if a bit off topic. For many the up cost is going to be a deal breaker and it is too bad for the rest of us that like the feature. Without widespread acceptance Speedplay is likely to sunset the product in a short amount of time. I hope it works out for me and others.

There's a thread on weight weenies saying the covers fall off easy. I would've bought them to save the screws from getting all scraped up but I think I'll pass. I tried Keep On Covers but lost one within like 2 months.
