Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Been wondering the same thing. Would love to hear how it went. I'm hoping he proved all of us naysayers wrong :-)

My bet is he failed - either didn't start or quit in route. Nevertheless, props for trying! I rode 104 centuries in one year when I was 61 four years ago. That included 7 days in a row, four of which had temps in the low 100s. Given all that, I can assure you I couldn't have made it 168 miles in a day. Number one reason would be the saddle contact point. So I'm fairly certain he missed his goal. I'm also sure he feels better having tried than sitting on the porch listening to all of us tell him not to. The only disadvantage of failure is if the bite you take is enormous, you're totally dispirited and never return for another bite.

That's still pretty darn cool! You had to put in the effort, not a lot of people are willing to do that.

As for the OP I bet they found his body and dragged it across the finish line. Oh wait, that's running not cycling.

Just wanted to quote 3alarmer, and see if this attempt to mention @Russik and get his attention works.

This is what I expect. He was thinking about it totally the wrong way. For starters, the challenge in riding 168 miles in a day is in understanding and managing your body, not the physical aspect. That's why people way older than him do it all the time. But he wouldn't have the experience to see the million small things that would totally hose him.

Hey @Russik, how about a ride report? We won't laugh. Much....

For all we know, you made it. But my money is that you wound up getting rescued sick and/or in pain a long distance from your goal. No worries, you'll recover and do better next time. Just remember, "experience" is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted...
