Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fuji SST for me

Hi all,

Just put this on layaway pending my tax return (hopefully some time next week). Wanted to hold it because it was a stupid cheap close out deal. Only pic so far unfortunately has all the store crap on it and the awesome test ride pedals.

I normally like to slam my stem but look at that saddle to bar drop. The saddle is roughly where it needs to be. Holy short head tube batman.

Love the dorque disque too - I hear they're easy to remove with an acetylene torch.

Looks sharp though!

not to mention those oh so lovely, napkin looking things that i think are spoke reflectors.

BTW, not a criticism as i am currently looking at Fuji Outland full suspension bike that i have no intention of purchasing... yet.

are those the new plastic flat pedals from Look? Pretty sweet!!

Everytime I pick up a new bike, I am always eager to go home and take off all the bike shop "addons"
Congrats!

I think you'll like your SST when you get to take delivery! Bought my SST frameset second-hand; 7000 miles and one year later, and I still love it!

Congrats and welcome to one of the stiffest frames you'll ever ride

If you're a heavier rider like I am (~77kg) make sure to get some carbon paste on the seatpost.

Thanks - yeah dork disk and reflectors will go away immediately. I'm probably also going to put some Planet X brakes on it straight away and am also looking at wheel options.

I love the graphics on the bike. The blue on black looks cool. Have fun with your new toy.

AMEN TO ALL OF THIS!!!! Finished my build a little over a month ago. On my maiden voyage, I made it about .5 miles when my seatpost slid in all the way down into the frame. SO pissed. After ordering some Park Tools carbon paste and a torque wrench...no more worries. Since I've gotten past that setback...pure fun. I can hammer this thing to death and all it does is respond. I'm 215, btw.

I'd buy it at that price. At the moment it's begging for a steer tube chop and some aero wheels.

Nice bike.

Well I picked the bike up today finally! Grabbed some quick shots in the parking garage at work. The bike is pretty heavy at 19.5 pounds with pedals and bottle cages. My uber weight weenie days are behind me but I would like to trim it down into the 15 pound range. The wheels are boat anchors and the cranks are probably not too far behind.

I have a set of Planet X brakes (which are awesome btw) that I might get motivated to put on this weekend especially if it rains like it’s supposed to. Not sure what the stock Oval 500 calipers weigh but the Planet X’s are right at 200 grams and I would be surprised if that drops some decent weight there.

I’m probably going to have some wheels built from parts at BikeHubStore. Suggestions are welcome. They also had a set of Reynolds Assault carbon clinchers at the store that I could get for around $850 which are tempting.

Not sure what I’m going to do with cranks. I plan on upgrading to an 11 speed drivetrain at some point so I need to make sure what I get will work with both (haven’t checked on compatibility between 10 and 11 speed cranks).

My thoughts on carbon and flat black are well known to many, but that bike looks pretty sweet. The blue goes with it really well. Just get some light alloy wheels.
