Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't care if they're cycling specific or not. Just don't want to pay $10 a pair for socks.

Wanting decent socks though. I have a few pair of super thin running socks that are perfect but I can't find any like them that aren't super expensive.

Costco Addidas socks are great at about $4.50 per pair in a pack of 3.

You can probably find good synthetic fabric socks at places like WalMart. Our local discount chain store (Giant Tiger) often has clothing that is a reasonable stand-in for performance athletic wear, but they deal a lot with factory seconds and irregulars and close-outs.

I bought a bunch of Fila branded synthetic sox at TJ Maxx and Marshalls about a year ago. They ended up being less than $2 a pair and have held up so far.

my sons both wear UA/Nike/Adidas no shows. they both prefer the UA ones and they seem to have held up despite my youngest running around outside in his socks.

Know what's helped me get some great prices on socks? Sleeping with someone who works at UA, Nike, or Adidas.

(Of course this is going on about 12 years now, and she's known as Mom by most of the people in our house.)

Did she get mad when she couldn't find her socks in the morning?

Check out RunningWarehouse.com for great deals on running gear, some things like socks translate to cycling pretty well.

Yes, especially because I stretch them out. Getting my own pairs with her discount has worked out much, much better. Now I just need a girlfriend at Rapha. Wait a minute, maybe I should think that through a little more...

I've been wearing Target's house brand Champion low-cut duo-dry socks for a long time; moisture wicking, comfortable, perfect for cycling shoes. I have pairs that are 7 years old and look like new still. Good quality for cheap.

NLZ wear has 6 pair packs of plain white socks for $10, $16 shipped.

They're thin.

I don't wear them cycling 20+ miles because my right foot goes numb; although that's probably lingering issues from when I broke my leg and stretched a nerve. Could also be the foot bed in the shoes I wear.

I've had bad luck with WalMart's And1 socks. They tend to bunch up in the crease between my toes and the ball of my foot and get holes in them much faster than other running/cycling socks I've had. Asics are what I'm using now. I agree with the poster above who mentioned Target's Champion brand. I haven't used their socks, but a lot of my athletic wear, including athletic trunk underwear, comes from them and the quality is excellent for a big box store brand.

the Champion ones from Target (including their reflective/hi-viz running ones) or Pumas from Costco.

My go to for all socks.

Funny, I like just the opposite as the OP.
I like thicker, higher cut, more expensive, merino, wool socks.
The difference between the worst sock imaginable and the highest quality sock you could ever buy, is like twenty bucks max.

You get what you pay for. That said, these C9 running socks by Champion are pretty decent for not much money. though I prefer cycling socks, I have ridden with this type of sock and didn't notice much difference.
