The Vueltas are cheap right now & while I'm chewing on what to do for a "really nice" set of wheels, I've been thinking about trying the Vueltas just cuz it's almost a no-lose situation.

Try 'em.....see if I think an extra 200 grams lighter & slightly deeper rim profile make any difference & if not, no biggie, still got a decent extra set of trainers.

The Aksiums that came on my EVO (2014) have been rock solid. I may be able to tell no difference whatsoever, but "all this scratching is making me itch".

My Aksiums have also been bullet proof. The Vuelta Corsa Lites don't tempt me.

I've put over 2000 miles on my corsa lites. I'm 170-175 lbs, riding on not so great city streets and wheels are as true as the day I took them out of the box. Best $220 I ever spent. Just need to remove all the stickers

I don't have an answer for your question but I am trying something similar. I'm replacing my stock Shimano R500s with Corsa Lites which arrived today. I'm saving almost 3/4 of a pound but I'm also doing this so that I can have dedicated winter and summer wheels/tires. So even if I don't notice much difference with the new wheels, I'll still be glad to have two sets. As you said, really a no-lose situation.

I'd save my money and get something much better like some 25mm HEDs, then make the bomb-proof Aksuims into trainers. I have a pair of Aksuims, what's it take to kill 'em?

I have had my Corsa lite for a few hundred miles and have had no issues. I have felt a big difference in acceleration and climbing. I'm 190 and riding an Allez. It was a definite upgrade from the stock rims that came with the bike

I have about 1,000 miles on my Corsa Lites and I really like them. I started with the Corsa SLRs and liked them even better than the Lites. Due to my weight (235lbs) I could not keep them trued, even though the SLRs have a higher spoke count. I have yet to have to use a spoke wrench on the Lites. If I am remembering correctly I think I got the Lites 20% off for a little under $200 and the SLRs were about $230. If I was less than 175lbs I think I would look at spending the extra few bucks for the SLRs. I few days ago Nashbar was having a 25% off sale. If you wait a few weeks they will probably have a 20% off sale on everything.

I'm running the SLR's this year and have a set of Corsa Pros that I rode the last two years. Been happy with both sets. Only gripe is the SLR's are a pain in the ass to mount tires on.

Second season on the Vuelta Corsa Lite's. I have no troubles with them, I weigh 180ish, they are still rock solid and true. As said, best money I've ever spent. Spin that front wheel and it glides forever. Quick wheels.

I pulled the trigger on the Vuelta Corsa Lites, upgrading from my stock Shimano R501's (after 5k miles). They feel quite a bit faster, especially up hills and into the wind., and my rides have been 2-4 minutes faster over my 15 mile time trial (a/k/a commute) with new PR's on the uphill Strava segments. There's all sorts of external factors there - wind, warm weather, new toy placebo, so it's hard to know for sure how much is due to the wheels, but that's enough rides to convince me they're helping a bit. I'm quite happy with them.

Corsa Lites are the best budget wheels money can buy. They are incredibly light, smooth, durable, and relatively aero at 27mm deep. And you cannot beat the price.

Why not? Where else are you going to get 1550 g 11 speed wheels for around $220-230? The fact that they arrive well built and are durable makes it a no brainer. Take off the stickers and buy some Mavic stickers and your friends won't know the difference

Cheap proprietary wheels are cheap proprietary wheels. He already has one set so why spend money on another? If I were him, I'd keep chewing on that set of wheels that I really wanted. Then I'd get them.

Wow! I missed this thread at 2 scans of the first page and forgot I'd posted this.

Anyway, I'm still riding my Aksiums. They're still bullet proof....(even descended a nice grade at 42mph today and ran over a few of those horrible "dummy divots" on the side of the road when I got squeezed and as violent a shutter as that was, the tires didn't pop & the rims still spin true when I got back.)

I don't know if there's a perfect wheel. Again, I think I'd have to try about a half-dozen different wheels and try them all for about a month's worth of riding to know for sure.....(which really sucks if you think about it cuz that's not how buying this stuff works).

Thus the appeal of the Vueltas. Little downside to buying & trying.

If you're getting the Corsa Lites because they're cheaper, then I'm sure you'll be happy with them. The Askiums cost more but are a better wheelset.

Aksiums are $150. I got mine for that with new tires.

+1, If the OP had a cheapo Alex or Weinmann wheelset, then yes it would be well worth it. But coming from Aksiums its not enough of a jump to tell the difference. I'd stay with the Aksiums, keep saving for that higher end wheelset that will make a noticeable difference. Hey, I'm not knocking the Corsas, just sayin, it's not that much of a jump.

To be fair, they're typically a $250 wheelset. (as a pair, of course) Unless you're talking used, overseas (which may include duties), super-coupon day or once-a-year giveaway something or other.

The Vueltas are a significantly lighter wheelset than the Aksiums even in Aksium's latest form. Again, I have no problem with them, especially in their "bombproof" nature. I just haven't had anything other than various, sub-$500 alum clinchers so I still can't speak from personal experience as to what a nice set of $500+ alum clinchers or even $500+ carbons would give me. (if anything)

I bought a paid of Vuelta Corsa Lights last year for my CAAD8, when I upgraded to the CAAD10 I didn't transfer them over (silly reason, but the black and red didn't match). I really liked the wheels though, definitely a noticeable improvement over the stock wheels and a great price. Honestly though I'm not sure they'd be an upgrade to Aksiums. I looked into Aksiums for my CAAD10 and people seem to either love or hate them, theres no middle ground, but I think they are pretty decent overall.

If you weren't across the country I'd be glad to let you try out my Corsas as they are currently sitting in my basement unused. I've posted them on craigslist a few times but no bites, not sure if its worth going the ebay route or not, shipping won't be cheap.
