My mom always half-jokingly told me that I should wear a mouth guard while riding to protect my teeth.
I always thought that was the most ridiculous notion.
Last night I went down and hit one of my front teeth on the ground and broke it. This is no bueno.

Get a good cosmetic dentist to do the crown. With a good color match, you shouldn't be able to tell.

Something about braces costing a fortune and a half when I was younger.

On the bright side I made Dean's List at school for both semesters this year, taking all upper-division courses. I'm pretty stoked about that, so I can lessen the blow with that information.
Between that, racing bicycles for the school's team, and working 30 hours a week throughout the school year I consider this year a success.

It is a long life (hopefully). Nothing good happens to your teeth from day one 'til you die. It is a never-ending struggle to keep them at all and keep them in decent shape. She has to know this.

Went to swap out the cross brakes with hood brakes on the new bike in the house yesterday and when I started removing the bar tape I found that the adhesive was not releasing from the bars so now there is a horrible corky sticky spiral on both sides of the bar. Ugh...
I soaked it in WD40 last night and I'm hoping it will free up the mess.

I considered taping over it, but it's thick enough that it would be noticeable. Razor blade came to mind as well as several other solvent options all of which I did not have at home and I had already went to the store once so I hit it with what I had handy.

That sucks about the tooth, but if you went down, and a tooth got broken, I think things could have been much worse! The "oh, by the way......" works well.

If she's unhappy about the tooth after the Dean's List bit, tell her she doesn't have her priorities straight. Diplomatically of course. She could have a son with a bum tooth because he's a meth addict instead of a bike racer. Try something like that.

Tell her you gave up on bike racing and took up hockey. Hockey players are supposed to be missing some teeth.

The puppy with tetanus is worse today, can't open his mouth at all. I had to push owner really hard yesterday to put in a feeding tube. She was reluctant because he could still eat some. Good call, because we probably couldn't get the tube in today, you have to be able to open his mouth to do that. We would have been stuck with a nasogastric tube, which limits us to feeding liquid diets and greatly increases the risk of aspiration pneumonia. As it stands now, we have a tube that goes across his body wall directly into his stomach, much safer and we can feed blenderized dog food.
I had to give my little talk yesterday about deciding if we were all-in, yes or no. Everyone wants to save their dog but what it takes sometimes can be more than people can realistically do. But if you're going to try, you have to be decisively in and do what it takes or you have no chance. Its my "**** or get off the pot speech."
