This happened today: Chain dropped on the FD, busted the RD
Not sure exactly how it happened. I was at the top of a climb in the small chainring and was shifting the rear down a cog or two trying to move on out. Went to shift the FD to the big ring and misshifted or something causing the chain to drop. That imposed slack in the chain which immediately wrapped around the forward portion of the cassette, which the yanked the RD up and over the cassette snapping in half. Seriously? Note the integrated, and now bent, hanger. Running brand new Force 22. Not new anymore...

This doesn't make any sense. If you dropped the chain to the inside on the front you would have lost tension in the chain but since you wouldn't be able to pedal anymore if that were the case, then the freewheel would have kicked in and the chain wouldn't have fallen to the inside. This looks more like the classic case of shifting the rear off the inside of the cassette without a dork disk.

I dunno. I did that one time (with Shimano 
and nothing happened to my dérailleur or hanger, but I destroyed about 10 spokes

$150-200 repair job. You came out easy on this one. the D could have taken out the wheel, frame or even you pending how it locked up.

Yeah, maybe I shifted front and rear too close together?
Chain, I believe, was exactly to the SRAM guidance.
Think the hanger is actually repairable then?

The hangar on my 2010 Scott Addict is replaceable for sure, don't know about the Cr1 though...that's one part I've learned not to go on cycling vacations without... A $10 dérailleur hanger.

Someone used to make a breakaway RD bolt for frames without a replaceable hanger. Can't remember who now, but I used to have one in my MTB.

You'll be lucky if you actually get a warranty frame, since they'll claim operator error. Assuming you're still inside the five year period.
