Are Chris King Hubs THAT Noisy?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A friend of mine had to have some....he wanted the hubs to match his bike (good grief). When they speed up and slow down they sound like an ambulance siren.

Great! Thanks for that...

My mechanic tells me that it's financially advisable that I get to like the angry bee sound soon, because it's going to cost replacing that hub. Apparently, it's not only labor intensive with these wheels, but also spokes need to be replaced if they can't reach the holes in the replacement hub.

The fact is that I hate Harleys. I have a Triumph, which sounds like a sewing machine, and that's fine with me. Tried to take a long trip on a loud motorbike? I have. Earplugs don't help much. Hours later after the trip you can still hear the noise in your head. It's OK to rumble the neighbors for fun, but in the end you rumble yourself.

As one poster said, this hub on carbon is really loud, my second ride today confirmed that it's unlikely that I will keep it -- waste of money. The fact that there are louder hubs still is little comfort. I have a handy bell for pedestrians, so I don't need my hub playing LedZep III everytime I stop pedalling. Thanks for the witty replies.

Knowing that the classic sound is known as the angry bees, I like to say that my R45's are "really annoyed" bees.

You can always tell when someone is riding CK Hubs. The sound is superb. I hear the clack clack clack and I look right down at the rear hub and see what color they chose. Nice stuff.
