skin suit and storage question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got one with back pockets so I would not have this issue. They are a little harder to find but they are out there

I would leave everything except keys locked in the car. What else do you need while on a TT...hopefully not your phone and wallet. Take your car key off it's fob/keychain and tape it under your seat? Or you could just slip it up next to your quad. If your in a decent area, I've hidden my keys in my gas tank cap before. If your in a REALLY good area, you can just do what I did once for a fondo. I got all my stuff ready at my car...rode the whole ride and realized when I got back...I had left my passenger door wide open for the entire day. I certainly don't recommend that....but nothing was touched in my car.

I'm sure you can find some place to "hide" the key

Here's a $4 solution Robot Check Lock everything in the car except a key or two. This also has the benefit of not becoming untaped or dropped on accident.

Put a two way radio in the radio pocket in your skin suit so you can call your sag vehicle.

I wear my car key around my neck on a cheap ball chain. Everything else is locked in the car.

Back to the topic...

If you're wearing a heart rate monitor, maybe have pocket added to the strap for a key.

Defeats the purpose of the skinsuit. If you're sufficiently concerned about aerodynamics to wear a skinsuit, don't compromise it with a pocket.

How about a "key safe"? You just need some place to loop it around.... maybe a coil of the front spring so it's totally out of sight.

The Run Lock is the only key safe for your keys when running in the USA

So you guys do TTs with no ID whatsoever? I guess no one ever crashes or has a medical event. I'd be worried about that happening 5 miles from either start or turnaround and the rescue crew confusing me for someone else and ultimately being transfused with the wrong blood type.

I remember Alan Kingsbury, reigning US TT champion, being hit by a cement truck in the Nationals. Unlikely but things can happen.

If you fill out your registration form completely, you they should be able to identify you by your bib number. If you have special medical needs, then it's probably worth it to have those printed on a RoadID or dog tag.

I use something like this for my house key, but it would do the trick for your car keys during a TT:

You have more faith than I do that all goes according to plan in an emergency. I've been to my share of life threatening situations. (Spent some time doing trauma work. In training spent an evening riding with a fire crew.) I was impressed by what the emergency teams were not told going to the scene. Also how far from reality the description I received from my dispatch of the scene I was entering differed from what was actually there. (And my dispatch got the same info from the same dispatch the emergency crew got. To me, carrying a driver's license/real ID, insurance info and any other info that might help is a no-brainer. And getting that tucked away in a skin suit is just not that hard. Maybe sew a little sleeve inside the thigh just above the hem. How much does that slow you down? And it's black on black. With black thread, whos's going to notice?

So when doing said trauma work did you often go through the clothing of the injured party looking for hidden pockets with data in them?

I thought we all just left our keys on the tire, behind the tire, in the wheel well, on the rack. I think you're over thinking this. Or just leave the car unlocked.
