    Non-genuine SPD SH-51 Cleat replacement

    Hello,

I wonder if anybody have tried a non-genuine cleat replacement for their spd shoes?

This one is only 8$ vs 20$ for a genuine one:
SPD Clipless Pedal Cleat FOR Shimano SM SH 51 PD M520 PD M54 Bicycle Replacemen | eBay

It's just a metal piece clipping inside the pedal...

Yes, I tried these ones (from MEC) once.
In my experience, they worked fine, although they may have worn out a bit quicker than the original shimano versions.

The spds generally last 10k+ miles, probably not worth the savings for such a long term wear item, you'll forget about the extra $10 by the time they need to be replaced again

I have used all sorts of brands of cleats on all sorts of brands of pedals and noticed little difference. 'SPD compatible' are just that.
