very dangerous for group riding, most groups and all races don't allow them...except time trials and triathlons where you aren't riding close to others...
.that said, I use them for commuting to escape the wind, but not on group rides...

i usually go to the trouble to attach them before multi-day tours. IMO, they are worth it for more than just the aero.

Because most people know nothing about them and don't want to know. The usual BF thing. It's perceived as cheating. Real roadies just go slower upwind. Of course no one uses them in close quarters, but never mind. Also they're forbidden in road races and crits, and we all want to look like racers, so of course. But we'll spend $2000 on aero wheels that don't do much and never race. Anyway, that's why. I mean, do you need them? IOW are you really that much slower than everyone else that you need to cheat?

Solo riders adapted to the position on non-technical terrain are faster in a TT w/ aerobars.
Riding in a paceline is faster than solo on aerobars on any terrain, aerobars are not safe/acceptable in a paceline.
Install/remove as required.

Consistency rules, all machines whether TT, FG or Road should have the same braking configuration per rider preference.
Try doing a traditional Cyclo Cross dismount/carry/run/re-mount w/ Left Front: Not so good.....

This. For my aching back the aero bars are the only way I can make it through a longer ride. I am tall at 6'6 and they let me stretch out. I only ride solo and don't race so don't care about the weight or what other's think as I am passing them in a head wind.

Depends where you live. In Ireland and the UK, the right brake lever was always the front brake. It took me a while to get used to the opposite setup when I started riding here in the US.

Less control of the bike. Less comfort. Adds weight to the bike and complicates the handlebars.
Otherwise, ride your aerobars to your heart's content. Just pay in mind the bit about the "less control" and don't ride them in tight group rides.
