Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No fun for any one, but it comes with the territory when you have a cat.
I use a compounding pharmacy when necessary and if the Doc' has a shot option versus pills I go with that...

Medicating a cat is a bit...interesting...Medicating Bengals? They're like little, mini, rolling alligators.

And this happened right after I got home from a nasty two-hour workout, so went from physically drained to emotionally drained, and now I'm just exhausted.
Similar situation with our dog last week. She was peeing before getting outside and had some blood clots in it. We gave a urine sample to our vet tech - daughter who cultured it. It turned out to be Enterobacter cloacae, so on Baytril for 2 weeks. Was much better after a day on the antibiotics. Proud of my daughter for stepping up to help diagnose.

I assume a urine culture has been submitted to the lab. If it has, it will actually take around 48 hrs to learn if there actually is a UTI. In the meantime, it's prudent to start antibiotics, plus pain meds. Antibiotics for a UTI in an animal with a predisposing cause for re-infection or resistant infection is typically 10-14 days. No urine sample - he didn't have enough in his bladder to get a sample from, and I've been unable to get one from him in the past, though I'll try. Fingers crossed the antibiotics clear it - since the first dose, and the painkiller, he's been acting much better and not gone back to the litterbox. So, even I'm relaxing a little. Still worried.

There is an antibiotic called Convenia. It usually works for UTIs in cats. One injection is good for 7 days. Kind on expensive but come Monday if giving to oral abs is not going well, ask about the Convenia. Might make life easier.

I will - he had it before. Different vets are back and forth on which they prefer. Fortunately, with a pill gun, it's not all that terrible (plus giving him his wet food right after) to make sure it's swallowed. I'll definitely take him in if he's not acting better by then, but frankly, he's way better since that first dose, so I remain hopeful. Will keep you posted.

Makes me very glad for the telecommuting, though, so I can keep an eye on him all day.

That is an excellent picture!

The sir seems to be doing fine - no more blood and one decent-sized clump in the litterbox.

In more amusing news, AG and I are volunteering at the kids' tri our team is putting on. This is the third year, and every year so far it's been torrential downpours. This year it managed to be an unforecasted thunderstorm, and an hour delay. The retention pool behind us is even filling up.

We started our final Gettysburg ride this morning at 87% humidity and finished at 83% humidity. The good side was that it was red calm out. Lots of elevation but we tougher it out.

I see a couple of loose spokes. If he tightens those, it should be fine.

Nothing a little duct tape won't fix.
