Oh, there was a hammer involved too, along with a 2x4. I couldn't get the spindle out and I figured a hammer/2x4 was my best option at knocking it out.
I had no issues until I hit over 5000 miles, and then it went downhill from there. Of course, if the shop discovers it to be something else and the bottom bracket is just fine, I'll stop trash talking it. If I get the bike back and it creaks in another month or so, I can honestly say that this will be my last bike with a bb30/pf30.
...there was an overly long and slightly contentious thread in mechanics on this a couple of years back. One guy who seemed to be working professionally, and certainly claimed a lot of expertise, went on to state categorically that he was able to make BB30 work like a charm, and that all the problems were a result of poor installation (materials/procedure).
At the time, I was unaware of low strength bearing retaining compounds, having only seen the very high shear strength ones used in reworking auto engines.
I was left with the feeling that, if a bicycle technology is so touchy that it is routinely ****ed up in practical installation by so many shops, and in fact often comes problematically installed by the manufacturer, it might be better avoided in favor of alternative answers that serve the same purpose. I routinely see stuff written about how BB30 is lighter/stiffer/the cat's pyjamas.
I remain unconvinced, and in fact a lot of the used stuff we get donated is sold cheaper because I feel bad that the new owners will probably have to go through this process of repairing it.

Happy 4th everyone! Just a public service announcement to remind everyone that today America celebrates the fact that our ancestors fought and died to make the British royal family less relevant than the Kardashians.

Casually Deliberate
In case anyone was waiting for an update, LoP got home about quarter after four this morning. I'm sure a full ride report with photos will follow once he gets more sleep.

Did a jaunty 55 mile ride today. 18.3 mph. 17 riders in our group. Absolutely gorgeous day for a ride - 70-80º and zero wind.

1. We have great coverage with intelligent commentary.
2. An Australian team is there, and Australians do great... oh lookee see who's wearing a yellow jersey.
3. We understand the metric measurement system along with every other country except two, so can fully enjoy all the details that involves.

And we are back in Australia after a 14-hour flight. At least the sky is blue, but the air is cool. Oh well, our days are lengthening, while the North American ones are shortening.

Yet in Australia, interest goes from strength to strength for several reasons:
1. We have great coverage with intelligent commentary.
2. An Australian team is there, and Australians do great... oh lookee see who's wearing a yellow jersey.
3. We understand the metric measurement system along with every other country except two, so can fully enjoy all the details that involves.
