Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers is turning into a decent series. I wasn't thrilled with the ending of Finders Keepers, but I have a feeling Mr. King is setting us up for a far better book this next go-round.

I'm all out of sorts today.
For the last couple weeks I've had some slowly worsening heartburn that has been reducing my appetite and interrupting my sleep, but yesterday it culminated in the mother of all heartburn that left me nearly doubled up on the floor for most of the day. I finally went out and picked up some Prilosec (generic) and started on a round of that last night. Nothing else ever seems to touch my heartburn at all. Of course it takes like 12 hours to start working so I spent the night unable to lay on my side or front and had to resort to laying on my back which doesn't work for me. Ended up reading (Brent Weeks) most of the night and only got a few hours of sleep.
On the plus side I am no longer in any pain today! I'm just weak and tired with a slightly upset stomach.

Probably, but I'm without insurance right now. I have a history of GERD so it's not exactly undiagnosed. A few weeks of Prilosec will knock it down and then I'll be fine for many months. Unless my gall bladder grew back...

I finally tried some Ultra-Ultra-Strength Tums or Walgreen's house equivalent, the 1000 mg size. They are all calcium so I can take as many as I need. I will pop three or four of those and be good for quite a while. It is not a substitute for Nexium, but I really helps when things get out of hand.
Also did you know you can take the other kind of acid reducer like Pepcid along with the Nexium/Prilosec/Prevacid type?. That two mechanism attack on the problem can also be very helpful.
And finally I find that the most frequent cause of heartburn problems for me is postural, not lying down as some think, but scrunching on a sofa or chair with my back and and torso bent right at the diaphragm while I watch TV. Often all I have to do to avoid the problem is get up and walk around for a little while, then sit up straight.

While my prescription meds do manage my reflux disease/heartburn pretty well, I do have an occasional flare up. I believed for years that a fancy antacid brand like Gaviscon was necessary. It foams and coats and protects the esophagus. Trouble is I can only take so much of it before the high magnesium content gives me the runs.

Funny, but foods that I eat have never made a difference to my GERD and heartburn. As my gastro-guy says, "It's not what you're eating, it's what's eating you." YMMV

There's also a chance that I don't have acid reflux but bile reflux so while my symptoms and causes might be similar they wouldn't be exactly the same.

Seriously, very scenic roads in good shape, lots of hills, historical town. Worth it if you need a few days of riding and want to enjoy some history while you are at it.

Only one thing really sets me off and gets around my stomach pill and that's donuts. One lard laden cake donut and I'm in trouble.

If I HAD to I could eliminate the beer. I only crave it watching football. Substitute wine instead. The other two are non negotiable.

I rode the Lemond up the mountain but didn't come close to @LAJ's climbing number. Only 7,165ft.
Getting from that patch of road down there to this patch of road up here was particularly painful.
