Can not recall the price, but it was a 10 speed (five speed freewheel), brand was Terrot a French Company. Bought it in Studio City, CA at Bill's Bike Shop. On Ventura Blved.at intersection of Laurel Caynon. Think it was like 50 or 60 bucks out the door. Whaqt I recall most was two thing, my first misadventure when I hit the from break too hard. Went over the handle bar, catch the bike befor it hit the ground. Remember the bar tape back then was plastic, and migle as well be non stick electricians tape, as it had ZERO PADDING.
Back then Jack Kemp owner of Village Cycles on Laurel Caynon in North Hollywood, by the Changdle RR Tracks was importing the Allego's. You could buy the Best Road Road Bike from Village Cycles with full campy with tubular for around 235-250 bucks. If memory is correct the Allegro's had this wonderful pait job. The one I finally landed about 62 was Gray, and look like some Cigar Smoker Blew Smoke over the paint. It was totally cool.
Things have changed.

$1,708 will get you a perfectly serviceable quality bike but it won't get you an Olympics quality machine today.

Bright blue 1978 Schwinn Varsity.
It was a birthday present from my parents who I am pretty sure couldn't afford it at the time and to this day, 37 years later, it is still by far the best present I ever received.
Thanks Mom and Dad!

My first road bike was a 70s Raleigh Record with chrome rims. Paid $89 for it on sale.
Years later, when I returned to cycling my first road bike was a used, 1984 Ross Signature, paid $10 for it at a yard sale. Compared to the Raleigh, I thought the Ross was a land rocket.

Real road bike ? 1992 Bianchi Premio.
Back in the day I had a "10 speed" that was maybe a KIA, came from Best, they were a catalog place but had stores too, that bike came from the Best store in Toledo, OH. Never did any major mileage on it.

Diamond Back Centurion Interval. around 89 or so. Was sooo excited when I got it at a local bike shop (since then has closed). My brother in law still has it as far as I know.

1984 Motobecane Prolight(Vitus 979) with Campagnolo NR.
It was known to have the ride of a wet noodle, but I weighed 125lbs back then, and it seemed fine to me.

Motobecane Grand Jubilee, in the 80s, I paid something like 550$ for it, my most prized possession at that time.

It was a 70's schwinn. I was 15 and walking home from school and happened upon it at a garage sale. I rode it back and forth to my first job at a shrimp hatchery around 15 miles one way.

2002 Giant OCR 3. Heavy and rough but she served me well for a couple years before I got bit by the bug. I think I paid about$700 back then.
