Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clipless Pedals Advise.....

My wife bought a Specialized Doce last week and was looking for suggestions on pedals. She is used to clipless SPD's from our mountain bikes. Her concerns were 1. Ease of use (entering & release), 2. Benifits of styles. Thanks for your input.

This is a great forum and I'm glad I found it.

Why not just put the MTN buke pedals on the Doce?

Try Speedplays
Roadies will chime in with Speedplay Zeroes, but i use Frogs for ease of entry/exit and ease on my joints. I can mount the cleats on MTB shoes and get off the bike and walk around with no problem.

Now some would say Road shoes are more stylish -- save for the duck walk

I could not agree more, especially until she's comfortable shifting and being on a road bike. The most important question is... is she happy with her mtb shoes and pedals? If so, stick with 'em. If she's really happy, then just get another set of SPD pedals for the roadie.

Since your wife is already used to SPD's, why doesn't she just stay with that? She has the shoes, her cleats are already setup in what I'm guessing is a comfortable fashion -- I doubt she'd notice much difference between pedal styles. As has been discussed on here ad infinitum, hot spots are more due to the flexibility in the shoe itself then it is due to the pedal type.

I use dual-sided SPD pedals with mountain bike shos on my road bike with no problems on everything from recovery rides to 200k's.
