Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need some Maintainence Tips and Schedules

I am new to road biking, and love it. I am seeking maintainence advice and a schedule on when I should do certain things. I just got a KHS Flite 300 and love it. I want to make sure it lasts me until I am ready to get into a higher-end bike. Any advice from seasoned pros would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the specs of my bike:

Thanks in advance for the help!

When Miinesota Fats was asked how often he chalks his cue, he cracked "I always chalk my tip just before I woulda miscued".
So try Preventive Maintenance. If your chain creaks, you waited to long to lube. Ditto dried-up noisy bearings and out of adjustment deraileurs. Nobody can give you firm answers, especially if you ride in the rain. Just do stuff, and do it early.

Learning to maintain your own bike is a very rewarding side to cycling one that I personally enjoy very much. Start with doing basic tasks and use the Park Tools website for guidance as Sydney suggested. And grow from there.

Also, you will need some basic tools but it absolutely not necessary to spend several hundred dollars on a complete toolkit.
