Derailleur housing fraying
Have jagwire cable housing, and most of the derailleur segments are getting frayed, with wires sticking out. The cables themselves are fine.
This is already causing sporadic shifting issues, and I know it needs to be replaced. What's the best housing to replace them with?

Housings fraying is kind of unusual, every end of each section should have a little cap over it, as merlin mentioned.
At any rate, they're a periodic maintenance item - just replace them. Jagwire is a good brand. I replaced my dura ace cables with jagwire, didn't hurt a thing.

Yes, the standard ones that look like these:
And the frayed wires are sticking out through the hole.
I tried removing the ferrules from the ends, but couldn't w/out crushing them w/ a pliers.
I'm actually kind of surprised this is not a more common issue; they must have just really dorked it up when they cut them in the first place; wires are sticking out ~1/4-3/8".
I bought a new set of Jagwire cables and "nosed" ferrules, like these:
These just get wedged in place, correct? Not crimped or otherwise attached onto the housing ends?

When you say fraying, do you mean the plastic coating at the ends is peeling back exposing a mm or two of the inner wiring?
If so, my experience shows that to be a pretty common problem with Jagwire housing. And it usually occurs inside the ferrules. I can usually tell when it is happening because shifting quality degrades and I can often hear a creaking noise. I usually replace cables and housing when that starts. It's about an annual thing.

I think the guy that wired this bike up must have been a former electrician!
Will be re-wiring tonight.
