Thinking of these for my S5 but they may be to Fred?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who gives a ***** what other people think. If it makes you ride more or makes your miles more comfortable do it.

I think the fact that he is even considering these bars, and the general consensus of the responses, shows that he should in fact examine and give heed to what other people think...

They should say "No Step" on the tops.

I agree, I don't think they're bad looking. It looks like it would be just a few seconds to remove the outfront part with a basic hex key if one needed to do a group ride, race, or charity event.

They're for draft-legal ITU triathlon.

Oh, and they're not Fred at all. They might be poseur, yes, or just look ridiculous, but they're not Fred. I'd skip them regardless since you're not doing draft-legal triathlon, though.

How would you not use them? Would you remove them for club rides?

How long are your club rides that you need a shelf to lean on?

I think if you need someplace to lean, instead of buying those bars you need to get out and ride more to build up some strength.

sorry for the brutal truth but I do not believe a 30-60 mile ride would require something like this. We are only talking up to 4 hours of riding on a club ride.

When you are doing club rides, are you only on the hoods or are you using the tops and drops too? maybe you just need to vary your grip position a bit more.

How about a pair of these? Look like they'd provide a function very similar to what you're after, with the added benefit of not costing $200.

The extensions are what I remove from the bars I posted.
