Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Prevent rust on steel frame?

I have a bike that has some chips in the paint.

Until I get it re-painted or powder coated it would be great if I could come up with some kind of clear coating that would prevent rust. Car wax maybe?

Any ideas would be great.

Lots of people have suggested fingernail polish, or an enamel touch-up paint.

I've sprayed a bike with clear-coat enamel which turned out nice. Can you buy clear enamel? More fingernail polish?

Match the color with auto touch up paint at the auto parts store. Nothing works better.

This. It solves the rust problem, and is going to be the best answer aesthetically. Much less noticeable than clear coating over the missing paint.
