At what point did you decide not to be a billboard?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

At what point did you decide not to be a billboard?

I wore sponsored jerseys with pride when I raced for sponsored clubs. Since then, I have worn plain jerseys with some exceptions. I prefer bright, usually yellow jerseys (simply because I see so few roadkill yellow squirrels I figure that's the crowd to hang out with) and that often limits the pickings. I now have an LG jersey and a Bianchi jersey in jellow. Sometimes I need a jersey and there aren't many choices. I have a Hincapie Felt jersey because I showed up at a ride and forgot mine. And I wear with pride my 25th year Cycle Oregon jersey. That year I rode the Crater Lake ride fixed. Day four was 98 miles and 9800' of climbing. That started 4 consecutive 5000'+ days. Feel I earned the right to wear that jersey.

I think that it really depends upon your relationship with the product and/or service. 'Specially for smaller operations, like a local brewery or coffee shop, I wouldn't mind advertising as long as I don't have to pay a premium to do so. For a MegaCorp? Not a chance.

Wearing good quality clothing trumps the logos and sponsorship.

Early in the morning when its still dark out, I skip the jerseys and just go with the Armour Compression tops. Otherwise during the day, I evaluate the weather and its effect on the ride. I'll choose the clothing with that in mind. That means I go with sleeveless triathlon jerseys as well.

What does that have to do with quality and logos not being mutually exclusive? I'm not following.

Maybe not much at all. Just saying I follow the quality of the clothing before anything else.

On the subject of sleevless tri jerseys, I ran into a group of 4 triathletes last week and while I had on my short sleeve jersey, every last one of them had a sleeveless jersey AND a set of white arm covers designed to be worn with a short sleeve jersey. They all had sun damaged shoulders. Quite strange.

Well I like plan jane cloths, and see no need to be a bill board. I have a couple of Jerseys from when I did the Death Ride, and Sierra Century. I like the colors, design, and they were full of advertising, or pimping some products.

Yeah.. and I'm not wild about the price of these. Though they do have jerseys that aren't all printed pattern weaves, eg. some simpler (not far off of plain black) designs

Forgiven for making your own apparel decisions? That's absurd; I think we'd all be quite disappointed with any grownup who didn't.

Seriously, why are so many people suggesting that this is about judging other people's apparel? Seems to me it's about determining whether our own apparel, and the available choices, are consistent with what we want to say, for ourselves.

I don't give a rat's ass what other people think of my kits. Billboard or not, I wear what fits well and help me ride longer.

I don't believe you. You're telling us that if it fit, helped you ride longer, and, by the way, just happened to be purple with "eat me out" in big glittery pink letters on the front and on the back had an ad for Summer's Eve, you'd wear it, anywhere, any time?

I have never been a billboard.

I do have some club jerseys from clubs I've been a member of ... and I have some event jerseys from events I have participated in. I don't wear jerseys from clubs or events I've never been a member of or participated in. But those jerseys have been chosen because I like them ... not just because they represent a club or event. I like the colours, the design, etc. And I usually wear those ones on club rides or events.

The rest of my collection are just simply lots of different colours and designs.
