Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

At about $1600 MSRP(in US), you are buying alot of name and markup.

bike prices in the UK suck almost as much as they do down here.

What else can you get for 1500 pounds?

Heck no. Sorry for the confusion. I meant Eddy Merckx frames are used in the pro tour in general. Not that specific one.

King Eddy's frames are among the best in the world. The quality of every frameset that comes out of his factory is second to none. He uses Century Geometry--relaxed angles, short top tubes and long head tubes--a comfortable double diamond machine. This year's Racing is far from an entry level bike. The aluminum frameset is top-notch and I believe it sports Campy Chorus. I can't help you with pricing, but you will not be disappointed with any EM model so long as the fit is right and the model serves your riding needs. Good luck.

There are so many choices in that price range.. You are paying a little for the name but Merckx frames are very solid.. I have 2 of them and the relaxed angles are wonderful and they ride great.. Fast - repsonsive and comfortable over a long haul..

Let's just say that you won't find me riding a Ridley (although I'm sure they're great bikes). Actually, I own every model in EM's lineup except for the new carbon MXM. I've ridden and own a bunch of others, all excellent race machines, but few compare with the ride of Belgium's best.
