Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Whats the consensus on Spinergey Wheels

seems like the spokes are much lighter but the wheel as a package is not that much lighter....is it the hub that is heavy...or the actual rim?

I've owned a set of Spinergy Xaero Lites for several years. Never took the time to look at the weights of the hubs versus rims, but I've found them to be light overall, fast and rock solid. The only quirk is a very prominent clicking from the rear hub when coasting.

I got a set of Tillium Aero Carbons on a used bike recently. Light, cool looking were my first impressions when I built up the bike. Get out on the road and find they are a bit "dead" feeling. Did a little research on RBR and sure enough, most reviews trashed this wheelset. Spoke tension probs on rear wheel. Go down in the shop to check my wheels and find four spokes just hanging there. Pull the rim tape and two of the nipples just fall out. These are recessed nipples that require a special tool for service. I Maguivered a setup out of a deep socket and epoxy. Worked like a charm to rethread the nipples and tighten up all the loosies. No impressed at all with build quality. Spinergy has a replacement program for these specific wheels knowing that they are defective in holding spoke tension. I plan on swapping. I have never ever had problems with my SSC's or SL's and I hammer them. I just want to ride and not worry about collapsing a wheel when riding. Jury is out on Spinergy.

Tightening of nipples lasted all of 60 miles. Spokes hanging like loose hair again. Watch out for this wheelset. On the verge of dangerous. Tossing the rear in a box to Spinergy and will have plenty to say if they fight this. Slapping my SLs back on.
