    Guru fit

After 29 years of riding road bikes, I finally decided that it was time to invest in a proper fitting, and decided to give the Guru fitting system a try. Tonights ride (22.5 miles, 1243 feet) was the first post fit.

I have never felt better on a bike. Not even close.

The only changes to the fit I had developed for myself was a seat that was 8mm higher, and 3cm forward, and moving from a 42 cm handlebar to a 44cm. I also changed saddles from a Fabric Scoop Flat, to a Radius. The stem, and it's position, stayed the same, as did crankarm length. I was sure that the new position would take some getting used to, but I was wrong. I immediately was incredibly comfortable, and had the best little ride in a very long time.

I just wanted to share this, and to thank Steve Herrera at The Cyclery in La Mirada, CA for helping out. He's one of the few shop owners that I've run into that gets it.

Well, damn! I've been in there numerous times and Steve's tried getting me to commit to a fit at least a few of those times. I keep thinking I'll do it, but not before a big ride or any number of other excuses. I guess I should just go give it a whirl. Thanks for the review.

I am going for one this coming Saturday, included with bike purchase actually. It will be on a new bike so I will have no basis for comparison to my current self setup ride except what I can deduce from careful measurement.

I had one done for my Guru bike purchase. I got maybe 15,000 miles riding in since then with complete comfort. Even the occassional saddle sores haven't happened.

After completing my first half-century last weekend, I had some weird knee pain in my right knee I've never felt before. It wasn't from mashing, it was clearly about my cleat position and/or fit and was being exposed by the amount of saddle time. (My right leg has never really felt quite right since I switched to road shoes and speedplays.) Decided it was time for a fit, and when into my LBS, which has a GURU machine, and made an appointment! The fit price is $300, which seems pretty reasonable.

Your post just made me excited about getting the GURU fit all over again! I can't wait!

Awesome, I'm having a fitting done at Acme Bicycles in Brooklyn on Aug 24. They use both a Guru and a Retul. I'm stoked based on your feedback. I'm curious to see what the outcome will be.

I just had one done and was very impressed. What I liked was that it started with a clean slate because as a newbie I wasn't sure where I should be. They recommended some major changes because that was what felt good to me and was efficient. They didn't try and sell me anything but made good suggestions, They adjusted my bike and have really nailed my position! I feel much better. The only problem was I was useless when it came to the frame geometry adjustments and so they couldn't fine tune for that. The list of bikes they said were appropriate was pretty long so when I get my new bike I will just have to try a bunch.

That's great to hear. I've done about 175 miles since my fitting, with 11,000 feet of climbing. I feel better every time I get on the bike.

That's the thing about a new fit that's right for you - each time you ride it feels better and better
