Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Emonda owners - what skewers?

Dura Ace skewers do not clear the frame in the orientation I want them in. The rear one pretty much only fits when pointing at 7 oclock when viewed from the non drive side. The skewers that came with the bike have a curvature to clear the frame to point it at 10 oclock. I'm not worried about hitting anything on a road bike that would loosen the skewer but damn its ugly in that position.

I usually run my front skewer at 12 oclock (parallel to the fork so with the rake of the fork maybe more like 11 oclock when viewed from the drive side) and my rear at 10 oclock (pointed right in the middle of the rear triangle). On a mountain bike with a thru axle, pointing at 10 oclock means its out of the way and if you were to hit something with it, it would tighten it, rather than loosen it... safer I figure.

Anyway... if you guys replaced your wheels are you using the skewers that came with the frame or the ones that came with the wheels?

Zipp 303 with Zipp skewers. I'm not concerned about how they look, just that they work.

Well it's not entirely about how they look... some skewers require certain orientation for aero reasons and safety reasons (not getting snagged on something and opening).

If you want Aero, you should get the new Madone 9. If you ride on the road, I don't see how you can snag it on anything.

I still use the Bontrager Skewers that came with my '08 Race X Lite wheels. They're a little lighter than the PSIMET skewers.

Dura Ace skewers don't clear my frame either, so I bought Zipp Ti skewers that do... Nothing magical about them, but they seem to work fine and were cheap enough at $35 or so.
