Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

which Garmin EDGE for D Fly?

I've got an Edge 800, which works fine. Unfortunately, it doesn't support Di2 integration, and since I've got the D fly transmitter, I'd like to take advantage of it.

Both the Edge 1000, and the 810 support Di2 integration.

In addition to being more costly, the 1000 won't work well with the ENVE mount.:

Any real advantage to getting the 1000 over the 810, other than screen size?

I've skimmed DC Rainmaker's review, but frankly don't have the patience to sort through 10 pages to sort out what of that makes an actual difference.

I looked at both of them, and chose the 810 as I couldn't justify the price differential for minimal (IMO) advantage.

The 1000's screen is much better than the 810, better quality, easier to read and operates like a cell phone screen.

I'm looking at upgrading from my 510 to something with navigation, i.e. 810 or 1000 and am mostly looking at the 1000. Yes it's more money but if you're like me and just going to get the unit (not the bundle) because you have the other stuff, keep in mind that the 810 only comes with maps if you get the bundle where as the 1000 comes with them either way. Usually the 810 bundle and just the 1000 by itself are the same or very similar price.

Decided to get the 1000. $499 on Amazon Prime with free shipping, so about $100 above the prices I was seeing for the 810 from most mainstream sites.

Main hesitation is how it suits with the ENVE extension. It will work. But has to sit a bit higher. Decided that was a fairly minor consideration.

Does D Fly do anything more than transmit which gear and how much charge left?

Nope. But that is pretty cool and you get a number of ways to display it on the Edge 1000.

Pretty much it, and after the fact how much time you spent in which gear.

Fairly limited value, but on a tandem it's a long way back to look at the cassette, and might as well take advantage of the capabilities available in the system.

Having the Di2 talk to the Garmin has potential that hasn't been tapped yet.

I do have an Edge 810, but my Campy EPS system doesn't seem to know how to "talk" to it. Agreed that it's not a high value capability on a single, but the after ride info could be useful.

Just got the 1000, and fortunately it just fits with the ENVE mount.
