Last 2 Weeks Before My First Gran Fondo

I didn't train specifically for the gran fondo. Is there anything i should do in terms of training or is it too late?

Here is the profile of Gran Fondo course: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=473557

Just ride and rest maybe 3 or 4 days before the gran fondo.
1100m of climbing over a 20km distance is roughly 5.5% incline. It's doable, just take it slow or walk in case you need a rest.

Done... unless you want to be first, then even EPO might not give you the result you're looking for.

Ride the mountain at least once. 20km climbs are never easy and a climb like that at the end of 70km of riding could easily take you more than 2 hours.

If I were you, I would skip that last part!

I figure it's mostly too late for training, but there are several things you might do to prepare. If I wasn't already familiar with it, I'd make a point of riding up that hill at the end soon, within the next few days, so I'd know what to expect and figure out how to pace myself.

yikes that ending. i personally would rather end with that then start and use too much energy up. it can take me 20+ miles just to get warmed up and find my pace

Well, we have some mountains where i live, not that long but steeper and pretty long. Like 13km %7-8 gradient. I just didn't ride anything with a bunch of people that is why i worry (race tempo etc.).

I don't think i'm that slow but you might be right. With that elevation and 20km climb it is going to be pretty hard. I had some similar rides at the start of the season. (10km %6 climb after 90km)

There is a shorter course without that climb, but you know, the human ego. :p

I'll try to ride hills in my area because race is far away from where i live. After a long flat section i'll hit the mountains and then hope for the best. :(

Same goes for me too. I'm planning to go easy for the first 30km, but i don't know what to do if a bunch of guys attack. I guess i can't hold myself back and than i hit the wall before that climb.

If you feel like they are going too fast, drop back and go solo. Makes no sense to kill yourself on the flats just to suffer on the climb at the end.
And if they are going to fast on the climb, let them go as well. Go your own pace or you will blow up.
I've been there myself many times... blowing up and having stomach cramps and wanting to just stop riding goes along with overstretching your abilities.

Looks like a great event, and a very ambitious festival. Best wishes for its success - be sure to let us know how it goes!

Sounds like a great event. Good luck!

I never worry about what others are doing when I'm riding a long course like that. If I can team up with people riding my pace then it's all good but if they start to push the pace and I'm not ready I'll ride solo or find someone else to work with. I tend to start my pace off easy until about a third of the way, then gauge how I'm feeling and then take things from there. All too often I'm passed by people very early on that I end up passing later on again when they are grinding up a climb because they went too deep at the start.
