Going from 23mm to 25mm or 28mm tires. Help me decide.

Conti 28's (at least my 28mm GP 4 Seasons) are more like 25 or even 23mm tires from other manufacturers in terms of size so I'm not surprised the rolling resistance would be similar. If you actually want some real 28mm tire volume, I'd not go with Conti.

First make sure your frame has the clearance and will accept 28c tyres. The Giant TCR is a race bike so probably designed to fit 23c. And 25c at a push. 28c might be too much.

Check out the new Panaracer Gravel Kings. The 28s weigh only 270 grams and roll very nicely. Unlike many so-called 28s, they actually measure a tree 28 mm or wider.

EDIT: Actually, the Raleigh Merit 1 and KHS Flite 280 already have 28mm tires. Schwinn Fastback 3 (says 28mm tire clearance) and Norco Valence A4 have 47-57mm brakes as well. (Just added: Cannondale Synapse Sora 7. Oops, just noticed there's a Cannondale Synapse Claris 8 as well.)

I am waiting for the new Vittorias made with graphene to come out before getting new tires. The 28mm Corsas look like they will be a great option, as are the tubeless ones. Of course, I expect any illusion to be shattered once I know the prices.

I recently got a pair of Michelin Pro Endurance 4 in 28mm after running 25's for years on my Giant TCR Advanced. The 28's are not that much wider, but they seem to be the perfect tire for me. I ride them everywhere including training crits, off road fireroads, etc.

I switched from Cont 23 to 25 about a month ago . I did not feel any noticeable difference from 25 , back on 23 .

What year is your TCR? Mine is a 2011. I'm guessing that the 28s should fit just fine.

That's the big reason as to why I was thinking of jumping to 28mm tires instead of 25mm. I don't see a big difference between 23 to 25 as opposed to going from 23 to 28.

I don't think Aksiums are that wide, are they? More like 19-20mm unless something has recently changed. I'd probably go with 25's for that reason. Or maybe 25f and 28r.

I'm making some changes to my TCR Advanced road bike to make it a little more comfortable to ride. I weigh 244 lbs and I'm just a hair under 6 ft tall. I already switched from an Arione VS to an Aliante VS and plan on switching the current 23mm tires to Continental Gatorskins in either 25 or 28 mm. Which one do I select? My occasional riding buddy says that 28mm will be too slow and overly soft. Another rider says that 25mm is the perfect balance.
What's your thoughts?

Our tandem team weight is 282. We very much like Michelin PRO4 Endurance 25mm. Mounted on 23mm rims, they measure 27.2mm. They're fast and reasonably flat resistant. In winter when the roads are more debris-strewn, we run Conti 4Seasons in 28mm. Our favorite summer tire is Conti 4000s II in 28mm, which measure almost 32mm on our 23mm rims. The 4000s II in 25mm also measure a bit over and would be a good choice for a fast, reasonably flat resistant tire.
25mm measures ~28mm on my 17mm inner width rims
28mm measures 30mm on the same rim
a regular road bike may not have clearance for the 28mm

I would be very interested on how you get on if you do eventually go to 28s.
Long story short but I recently bought a new Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra as the 'prime bike' and immediately swapped it's Mavic Aksium wheels (with Mavic Aksion tyres) for the Fulcrum Racing 5 LG / 25 mm Continental GP 4 Seasons combo on my Specialized Allez (which I will continue to use). When compared to the Continentals, I do not like the Aksions and now therefore need to get some new tyres for the Allez (ie. another pair of 4 Seasons 25s). BUT, It occurs to me that I might go up to 28 on the Synapse (perhaps even GP400s) and move the 25s back to the Allez. My only real concern is that the 28s might not be as quick but if the speed difference was marginal, the extra comfort might be worth it. I don't believe my 175 Ibs is a dictating factor.
Hope this all makes sense and grateful for any other inputs.

I have 25 mm tires on my TCR Comp 1, the biggest I can fit. Check the clearance in the rear first, mine won't fit 28's as they would touch the frame
