I had my heart set on a Cayo with Ultegra but was open to the R3 as well. Both right about the 3k USD mark and seem in your range if you shop hard.

I ended up buying an Izalco instead. It was a 2014 with Force, but a comparable group nonetheless. Since it is basically 2 years old at this point the LBS significantly disounted it. It was ordered in too, not sitting in the shop, so dont be bashful to ask.

I can't go on enough how comfy the bike is. And how responsive it is. And how quick it is.

I am just worried that Izalco's geometry is too aggressive and also will not fit 25 tires. Although I would like the Force!

It's been a while since I looked but I thought the Addict has an aggressive, pure race geo?

I had the same worries - no spring chicken with numerous back and joint issues. And ultimately realized sitting more aggressively actually balances weight better and keeps more pressure off my sit bones and shoulders/neck.

It's been a while since my search for a bike and as predicted everything changed after the test rides. I have shortlisted two bikes: Focus Cayo 5.0 (2015) and Scott Addict 20 (2015) both with Ultegra. After the test ride Focus was scrapped as not responsive enough. Scott was really good but I don't like the Ultegra on it. I then tested Cannondale Supersix Evo Red (2014) with Sram and it was really nice. The price however is much more than other bikes. I can have Scott for $2400 (Aus) and Cannondale for $3500 (Aus).

Of course it is not about groupset but about the frame. Do you think that the frame on Cannondale is worth paying more? The weights of scott and evo are similar at 7.2kg.

Would be great to hear your opinions.

I am a big fan of the Scott Addict. Truthfully, both bikes are nice. It boils down to preference. I'm not sure what you dislike about Ultegra but if that is the case it should be an easy decision.

I have 105 at the moment. Ultegra seemed clunky, harsh abd bulky... Sram Red (should compare to DA) was much better and shifting is just more ergonomic imo.

I just wonder how the frames stack up.

The frames like the groupset are really a matter of personal preference. I would have a hard time spending 50% more for Red over Ultegra though. I preface this by telling you that I ride Campy Athena. I have always thought of Ultegra and Athena to be the best groupsets that I would pay for. I know that Record, Chorus and Dura Ace are the higher groups but I just don't see an advantage for me. The cost benefit ratio is just not there. Again that is just my choice.
As for Sram, I am sure that it is good but it is not my preference. I would not shy away from the right deal if a bike that I wanted was equipped with it. $1100 for Red over Ultegra just would not compute for me. Bikes are such personal choices though. You have to go with the bike that you feel is right for you.

Get the Addict - they are a nice rig in the IAM colours and are not seen 'everywhere' like other bikes.

As for Ultegra vs Dura Ace - the DA is nicer, but not by a lot.

What would you like in a frameset review?

Some reviewers merely describe the bike and make assumptions about its handling.

How about making comparisons to highlight differences between competing brands. How size offerings might make a difference. How they approach stack and reach. It seems that there should be a list of things to cover in a review.

Rear dropouts and cable routing is ok, but not at the center of it all.

If you are cross shopping the Addict and Supersix, go take a look at the Izalco. Similar geometry.
BTW, the Cayo not stiff enough? Is this Andre Greipel? Or are you 280 lbs? :-) Probably more to do with the wheelset than the frame.

Thanks, i looked at Izalco but it is out of my price range. I admint that Cayo had the worse wheels from the bikes I tried but brickiness of the bike couldn't be only wheels issue. I am not Greipel and am 70kg but love very responsive bikes.
Both bikes fit me well and I willhave prof bike fit afterwards.

For the frame comparisons:

- which is better quality? are these merely similar frames and I am paying $1000 more for groupset and seat?
- which frame is more durable from peoples experience (any cracking...)?
- handling on descends - this will be subjective and dependant on equipment but I will take it.
- which one is more a climbing bike?
- is there any worry on warranty for Cann or Scott? How the companies compare?

I am taking other things into consideration and reading all posible info i.e. Cann cannot be upgraded to DI2 due to external cables. Is that a problem? Possibly not.

Was also thinking to get cheaper Scott and later upgrade to Sram. This would possibly cost more that Cann with Sram.

I promised photos of the new bike. Here they come.
I decided on 2016 Cannondale SuperSix Evo Red size 56. Really happy with it.
Steerer tube needs cutting (yes it is slammed and professionally fitted). Zonda wheels. Around 7.3kg

Your stem looks on the short side. Is it 90mm? And your saddle is way back, like 70/30 of your weight is over the back wheel. Wondering why the fitter did that and how the bike handles as a result. That said, bike looks sharp. I might consider matching cages tho

Stem is a 110mm. The saddle setback and stem lenght is obscured by the photo angle. Looks weird but it isn't so bad. I had retul fit by qualified physio. Works very well, bike handles without problem however haven't tested on long descents yet.

The bottle cages' colours were chosen on purpose to create nice lines. Orange a sharp arrow shape with Black closing.
