Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any electronic group on a classic frame would make it a unique ride.
It would be awesome if it was internal cabling.

I think this bike looks awesome... However, I still think a silver Athena bike with silver hoops would also look great too.

I've been meaning to build up a steel frameset I got in the spring, and I got impatient and bought a black alloy Athena gruppo when I saw a really good deal on it a few months ago. I probably should've waited for the silver gruppo to go on sale since I ended up not building it yet.

I went classic + silver 11 speed and 2006 crankset and constantly get compliments. Rode it the last two years for la Marmotte...

that is like Sophie's choice... I honestly don't know. I know you prefer money left out of the equation, but that is the only way I could decide... if I had the dough, SR, if not, Athena... both look so fantastic. If money truly doesn't matter, buy another frame and do both!

I vote for classic, retromod could be nice except for the wheels. Low profile rims look much better on classic frames IMO.

If you are going modern, why screw around with the "old" electronic shifting.

I wish... the SR is within my initial budget that I put aside for this build. If I get the Athena, the money would just go towards another build.

so, I've decided... here's a preview of the build

the rear wheel is not the final wheel that's going on the bike. It's just so I can get the chain on

Yeah, it's a 50 frame... can only put one cage on the bike cause it's so damn small.

Sweet build, but I wished you kept your original steel fork. That thing is beautiful. The new fat carbon one doesn't look right with the thin classic frame.
