Carbon Fiber Seatpost: Positive feedback about reduced feedback

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Fiber Seatpost: Positive feedback about reduced feedback

I can definitely feel the dampened quality in the front end that presumably comes from the carbon forks on my bike (Fuji Sportif 1.3D). I can also see that the Specialized Roubaix (that I also rode before buying the Fuji) had that quality all over, not just in the front end. I made the choice to spend MUCH less on the almost as good Fuji (Geometry, fit, and components are remarkably similar on the two bikes). Coming from MTB, I really wanted to dull the road though.

I read a bunch of threads about CF seatposts and whether they would dampen the ride. Opinions range from "yes, a great deal" to "no way, not even a little". A cheap chinese CF seatpost is cheap (<$30) so I figured I'd give it a try. My first impression was disappointment. My new chinese CF seatpost actually weighed MORE than my aluminum (same length) by about 20 grams. But I didn't buy it for weight savings, which even with a top of the line CF seatpost would be very minor.

What about ride? Holy cow, add me to the "Yes, a great deal" category! Wow. I can't believe its the same bike. Its not just the reduction in "road buzz", which actually doesn't bother me that much. Its a dramatic reduction in the jolt from expansion seams, potholes, manhole covers, etc. They've gone from a sharp jolt to a dull thunk.

All I can say is I personally think a CF seatpost is a VERY worthy upgrade to any bike. Well, other than a FS MTB, which presumably wouldn't benefit much.

25.4, but you are right. Very few choices especially if you want a two bolt adjustment system.

Those are both the stock alum. There are even fewer carbon upgrade options for 25.4. FSA is the main one.

Yeah, my bad. Looking closely at them I see that. I searched quickly and they hit "carbon" because it says they were taken off a carbon bike, not that they are carbon.

ENVE

Cannondale C2 Carbon

Only two that jumped out at me. One considerably less expensive than the other.

The Hi-Mod version of the Synapse comes with an FSA SL-K 25.4 carbon post. There are also a few FSA's available aftermarket with Di2 battery holder ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/FSA-SLK-Di2-...item5d55ea1f99 ). Those aren't much more than the C2 option. The ENVE price is a little nuts.

Thomson Elite is also an option (for nicer alloy), but only available in the non-setback version from what I've seen.

I heard that the CAAD12's use a 25.4...so maybe availability will improve a bit.
