Bad Day? Stab a Cyclist -
I just came across this article here in Pittsburgh. So much for 'on your left' as a polite gesture to get around a pedestrian.

A McKees Rocks man turned himself into police on charges that he stabbed a bicyclist on the Smithfield Street Bridge.
James Malone, 22, was arraigned Tuesday on aggravated assault and other counts. He was being held Tuesday in lieu of a $3,000 bond at the Allegheny County Jail.
He was crossing the bridge Friday night when two bicyclists said, On your left, as they tried to pass, according to a criminal complaint.
Malone yelled, I'm having a bad day. You move out of the way, then pulled out a 6-inch pocket knife and lunged at a man on a bike, police allege in the complaint.
The bicyclist put his left forearm in front of his face to protect himself. He received 10 to 15 stitches to a large gash on his arm.
Malone then grabbed the man's bicycle and threw it over the bridge into the Monongahela River. He chased the other bicyclist and a bystander with the knife before fleeing.
When Malone turned himself in Monday, he told police, I'm the one who stabbed the guy on the Smithfield Bridge, according to the complaint.
He told detectives he had a meltdown at work, and his manager gave him permission to leave early. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

I had to pass a deranged looking homeless guy twice on the bike path yesterday. I thought about announcing myself but he looked like he might stab me so I opted to get as far over as possible and used that time to work on my sprinting

Maybe all of the bike lanes painted on the road induced a dizzying type of vertigo and his only recourse was to stab someone or take his 3 daughters out to get complete body tattoos. Poor choice, the tats would have been better.

I work with a chap who is occasionally driven partially mad by the stress of work, but unfortunately does not have the self awareness to remove himself from the situation before he loses his cool. We were given computer based training to teach us how to tell if someone is a potential threat in the workplace, and it became kind of a game to keep a checklist of all the 'warning signs' he exhibited on a given day. I think physical violence is unlikely from my colleague, but it won't be too surprising if I hear a story about him like the OP linked.

Even on my worst days, I've not reacted in anger toward a bicyclist. I cannot say the same to fellow motorists, though. Thinking isn't the same as doing.
I've heard a story about Jim Valvano's brother, also a basketball coach, who once asked a referee if he could be ejected for what he was thinking. The ref stopped and said, "no, Bobby, I guess that you can't". Bobby Valvano, realizing that his team had tanked in that game and wanting to stir things up, replied "Good. Because right now, I'm thinking that you suck!" He was tossed.

A few years ago some little princess who was riding on the sidewalk on night nearly hit my mother and I as I was transferring my mother from a cab to a wheelchair. I explained to her in anger that riding on the sidewalk is illegal once you turn 12. Instead of apologizing for nearly hitting an infirmed septuagenarian she opined that it was legal to ride on the sidewalk since there is no bike lane. I told her that if she went to law school she wasted her money.
As Popeye said "If it's all I can stands, I can't stands no more."

That will in fact be all he will be charged with...lol.
To me the guy who was doing the stabbing shouldn't be charged but rather the cyclist for not being a better bike handler. A good rider would have never been stabbed. Evading a deranged guy with a knife is no different than evading a rabid dog. In fact good practice.

When I have computer trouble 99% of the time out IT department tells me to restart the machine and see if the problem resolves itself. 99% of the time it does. I want that job.

Then why don't you restart the computer before calling the IT dept? If the problem goes away, you've just eliminated 99% of your IT calls.

Okay that's it, from now on I'm going with "on the right!" as most people, even crazy pissed off ones, are right handed and in a much better position to stab me if I pass on the left.
